Everyone knows what a Final Girl is. It's the chic in a horror movie (usually a slasher flick) who survives to the end and manages to vanquish the monster while all her friends are killed. Usually (not always) this Final girl is a virgin and doesn't do drugs (although I do think that aspect of the final girl has been a bit misrepresented, for instance Jamie Lee Curtis the most famous final girl of all time smoked a joint on her way to battle Michael Meyers in Halloween not to mention Alice from the original Friday The 13Th gets high and plays strip monopoly with Bing Crosby's son on the fateful night and manages to live to see the 14Th but I digress..

But what about the Penultimate Girl? You know that hapless girl that almost stays alive almost until the end credits? Or worse yet actually manages to survive the entire movie only to be dispatched in the first ten minutes of the next installment? While it's true these almost survivor's are sometimes bland in comparison to the final girl (producers don't want the audience to like the other victims too much..these people must die! The final girl should be the most likable character in the movie and the one we root for). Curiously the Penultimate Girl tends to be either the Final Girls closest friend (Halloween,Halloween 5,Screams 1-2) or the Final Girls arch Nemesis usually over some man (Prom Night,Friday The 13Th the New Blood,Carrie).

So if the Final Girls are the alpha females of the slasher movie then the Penultimate Girl is the #2. The Penultimate Girl is the Ethel. The Final Girl is the Lucy. The Penultimate Girl is Kelly. The Final Girl is Beyonce.

Well I say fuck overexposed Beyonce and her sure to be camel-esque looking newborn.. Today we celebrate all The Kelly Rowlands of horror and hell maybe even a few Michelle's. (ahem)..so without further adieu I give you my Top Ten Penultimate Girls!

#10 Susan Jennifer Sullivan "Melissa"

Penultimate Cred: Friday The 13th The New Blood (1988)
Status: Dead

God she was such a uber bitch the entire movie to sweet Final Girl Tina I almost hated to see her go. Her original death was awesome but the MPAA slashed it within an inch of it's axe. As a big fuck you to them I included the uncut version here. She was soooo axing for it.

#9 Anne Marie Martin "Wendy"

Penultimate Cred: Prom Night (1980)Halloween 2 (1981)
Status: Dead in Prom Night but alive in Halloween 2.

She had 2 lines at the beginning of Halloween 2 and then basically dropped the actual Penultimate Girl off at the hospital where Jamie Lee Curtis was recovering from Halloween 1 and kept it moving (lucky bitch) but in Prom Night she was another example of the uber bitch Penultimate Girl. It's pretty much her fault that the killers sister dies in the beginning of that movie thus making all the deaths after that her fault as well. To top it off she is rude to her maid. It should be noted that the chase scene that preceded her death was pretty much the template for slasher chase scenes from that moment onward. want see it?

#8 Ellie Cornell "Rachel"

Status: Dead (scissors to the heart)
Penultimate cred: Halloween 4 and Halloween 5

OK depending on how you look at it Ellie Cornel's Rachel Corruthers could either be considered the Final Girl or the Penultimate Girl who survives in Halloween 4 since both her and Daniele Harris shared much of their screen time and both survived the film. In Halloween 5 however the idiot director decided to kill off Rachel and spare (for the most part) her annoying and useless friend Tina whom most genre geeks vote the worst Final girl of all time. I don't mind if a Final Girl is killed off in a subsequent sequel just make sure her replacement is not half as cute, interesting or capable because then it becomes tedious.

#7 Patricia Arquette "Kristen"

Penultimate Cred: Nightmare On Elm street part 3 (her character appears recast in 4)
Status:Dead

I'm sure bigger slasher geeks than me will argue that Arquettes Kristen was THE Final girl in Nightmare On Elm Street not the Penultimate Girl but I disagree. Nancy who is Freddy Krugers arch enemy in 3 NMOES movies is presnt and although she does indeed die she manages to vanquish Freddy first which makes her in my mind the Final girl by seniority alone. Patrica refused to appear in part 4 so they recast and killed the character. The Kristen in part 3 was tough, smart, likable and cute and had the ability to draw others into her dreams. the Kristen in part 4? not so much.

#6 Kelly Jo Minter

Penultimate Cred: Nightmare On Elmstreet 5,Popcorn, The People Under The Stairs

Status: Alive in NMOES and People Under The Stairs but I'm sure she died in Popcorn.

I had to have a sista on this list and let me tell you it was not easy to find a black chic who survived a horror movie much less a slasher. It's pretty much just Kelly Jo and Brandy from I Still Know What You Did Last Summer and since the fact that Ray J exists means I can't stomache Brandy any longer kelly jo Wins by default. Every other black chic Freddy has faced is dead and that includes Kelly Roland.

#5 Danielle Panabaker

Penultimate Cred: Friday the 13th(2009) The Crazies (2009)
Status: Dead

Poor thing. She really is the classic example of a Penultimate Girl in that she manages to stay alive an incredibly long amount of time in both the Crazies and Friday the the 13th remakes. She is basicially set up to be the actual Final Girl in Friday The 13th only to be dispatched moments before the movie is over with the Final Guys sister becoming the Final Girl (which considering she spent the entire movie chained in Jasons lair waiting for her brother and her to rescue her which they did seemed unfair. In the Crazies she got one of those awsome you think the action is over and then blam out the blue somebody gets it car wash deaths. Yeah one of those. As I said she tends to stay alive a long time for a Penultimate Girl almost as if the director really didn't want to kill her. Maybe I should have ranked her higher but I don't like typing Panabaker so she stays at # 5

#4 PJ Soles and Nancy Loomis (tie)

Penultimate Cred: Carrie,Halloween,Assualt On Precinct 13,The Fog
Status: Both of Pj Soles characters Lynda and Norma are dead as are Annie and Julie the characters Loomis played in Halloween and Assualt however her character from The Fog survived but seemed dead inside.

Do I really need to explain why these two iconic cult actresses made the list? Just look at the movies they appeared in. Nancy Loomis was a John Carpenter day player who died in Halloween and P13 but survived The Fog. She made 3 horror classics and then dissapeared from hollywood thus cementing her cult status.

PJ Soles was more mainstream, made fun of Carrie White, got stangled by Michael Meyers married Dennis Quaid, made Rock n Roll Highschool with The Ramones and called it a day. By the way in Halloween the charatcer of Annie (Loomis) seems like she is set up to be the Penultimate girl, she spends more time with the final girl, is stalked longer even though Soles Lynda ultimately lives longer.

#3 Danniele Harris

She was almost #1. She plays Jamie Lloyd Jamie Lee Curtis daughter and Michael Meyers niece who survives but goes bonkers in Hallowen4 returns semi sane yet telepathic in Halloween 5 then recast and killed in Halloween 6.

Cut to Rob Zombies remake and he casts Danielle as the reimagined Annie who in the remake actually survives (barely) but definatly dies in the remake of the sequel! Sigh. Still all in all a pretty mean Halloween pedigree. She was almost #1.

#2 Hayden Panettiere "Kibry"

Penultimate Cred: Scream 4
Status: Dead? She never actually stopped moving so there is a chance.

Hayden Panettiere almost did too good of a job with her potrayel as female slasher expert kirby in Wes cravens Scream 4. Every scene she is in you are drawn to her and she manages to read her dialogue ion a way that you beleive everything that comes out of her mouth. Add to the fact that her Character Kirby was a potential killer adding another layer onto her performance Pannettiere managed to create a penultimate girl who was more likeable and intersting than the actual Final Girl(s). If the producers are smart and if another sequel is made she will be back.

#1 Nancy Stephens "Nurse Marion Chambers"

Penultimate Cred: Halloween, Halloween 2, Halloween H20.

Lets recap. Nurse Marion Chambers first shows up in the opening moments of Halloween (1978) riding with Dr Loomis to tranfer Michael Meyers out of Haddonfield Santatriom. Meyers of course escapes, attacks Marion and steals her car but she escapes with her life!

She then returns in Halloween 2 and is the person responsible for revealing that Jamie Lee Curtis is Michael Meyers sister and despite being present in the hospital showdown at the end still survives!

Cut to 1998 20 years later and Halloween H2o which not only bought back Jamie Lee Curtis but also saw the return of the chain smoking Marion. Too bad the 3rd time turned out to not be the charm as she was killed before the opening credits but the tough old broad went down fighting bless her heart. Because she was the first female potential victim for an adult Michael Meyers and lived to tell in Halloween 1 because she revealed to Dr Loomis and the audience that Laurie Strode was Michael Meyers sister because she appeared in 3 instalments over 20 years playing the same character yet in following the rules of the genere ultimaly dies in the end Nancy Stephens is the #1 Penultimate Girl of all time.

Sunday morning....when Ignorance thrives in the pulpit and on television. Twice this morning before the Noon hour I heard preachers (on two separate stations) preach the evil of homosexuality and to drive the point home they bellowed "I mean animals are not gay. If homosexuality was natural wouldn't there be gay animals?

Seriously? Why do certain religious friends of mine and Jesus freaks in general choose to wallow in ignorance? At this point it's a choice because I found out all about gay animals with the stroke of a google. Why pay ten percent of your income to hear things that are simply not true? I'll tell you why. It's a way of justifying your own bigotry. By the way here is a list of gay animals. Blackshear Reviews: Charlie's Angels 2011

How do you review a remake of your favorite television show of all time? How do you review a show that reminds you of your childhood, that showed you that women were every bit as smart, strong and resourceful (usually more so) than men? With a shit load of bias's that's how.

My good friend, writing partner and fellow angel fan Anna and I run (well she runs I help) the most successful Charlies Angels fan forum on the web http://townsendagency.19.forumer.com/index.php and one of the fastest growing CA websites http://charliesangels.org/. We love the original show in all it's bad acting horrible script pseudo kung fu glory. It rarely took itself seriously and even though plot holes and unlikely events abounded the Angels had chemistry with each other and for the most part were strong, smart resourceful girl scouts who didn't think they were all that. The show was rarely slick and well produced but was almost always a lot of fun.

Which brings us to the main problem with Angels 11. It's not that much fun. Sure the Angels claim to be having fun but the show is much darker and takes it's self much more seriously than the original. The plot holes and cheesiness in the original worked because the show was kind of winking at you. The plot holes and cheesiness in the remake just come across as lazy producing because the New Angels think they are so damn cool. Worse still is their seems to be very little chemistry with this new crew. Minka Kelly (Eve) comes off the best with her natural cool performance and some much needed goofiness reminds me a lot of what Cheryl Ladd (Kris) brought to the original show even though Eve is supposed to be the street smart Kelly template.

Abby ("The Blond one" as Anna refuses to call her anything but) fares the worst coming off as cold and trying too hard to be a bad ass. Rachel Taylor as some have pointed out can indeed act but here her line readings seem forced. Maybe it's Aussie Taylor's focus on trying to maintain an American accent which is sabotaging her performance but she is my least favorite Angel.

Which brings us to Kate (Annie ) The Black Angel. On the plus side I'm glad the producers resisted the urge to make her the street smart angel, the theif or the ghetto angel. She seems to be the Sabrina of the new crew, the smart one they even gave her Sabrina's real name (Kate.. Ms Jackson if your nasty) and a ex cop love interest played by the Old Spice man. On the Minus side she seems to be the least developed of the three angels despite getting a lot of screen time. While Eve is the street smart car their who gets to steal cars and combat drive and Abby is the cat burglar who gets to pic locks, crack safes and scale building Kate is the former cop who gets to...shoot and fight. Cool except the other two seem to shoot and fight just as well. What does Kate bring to the table that the other two do not? And although the show resisted making the black angel the street smart one it could not resist the urge to make all the angels (and Bosley) former criminals. Since when has Charlie Townsend been in the habit of reforming criminals? Well since he started hiring black and Hispanic Angels and Bosleys apparently.

I'm not going to go into the plot details on the two eps I watched because plot has never been what CA is about but where the show fails the most is it doesn't DO anything better than other shows of it's ilk. Other shows featuring tough lead females are out there and down the line they do what they do better than CA. Charlies Angels 11 is not as well written as Buffy or even Alias, it's not as well acted as Dollhouse or even God help me Rizzoli and Isles and the fight scenes can't compare to Doll House or Nakita. The only thing the show has going for it is attractive actresses a like able Minka Kelly and Bosley and brand recognition. The Brand frankly...deserved much better.

I suppose I should have put the disclaimer before the acronym oh well. This Blog is about (among other things) gay sex. If reading about gay sex bothers you then don't read this blog. How HARD is that?

Being HARD is very important in black culture. Especially if your a dude. As a matter of fact we (black folks) tend to put a shitload of stock into our men being "hard meaning don't cry u sissy, beat than mans ass if he disrespect you, fuck all the bitches you can young man...oh but make sure to stay prayed up and see the preacher on Sunday" and this is just advice from Grandma! Young black men are encouraged to be "Playas" (see LIAR) "Baller" (see Hustler) and Pimps (see er Pimp) all sub genere's of being HARD! The absolute worse thing u can be as a young black man is "soft" (see show emotions, show intellect, show thoughtfulness or...shudder Cry) this is why we as a black community have turned out an entire generation of HARD uneducated violent thoughtless brothas. Because that's what we as a black community want our men to be.

Anything but soft (see gay) because being a soft (IE compassionate, educated, thoughtful and shudder homosexual) will get you nowhere in life.

But what is HARD in the hood really? How HARD is it to sag your pants like everyone else, how hard is it to yell "Money and Ho's" like everyone else. How HARD is it to be a thug ghetto clone that looks and acts like every other Young thug in the hood?

What's HARD to me is the loud ass fem sissy that every hood has (see Antione Dodson) who swishhes and stunts and lisps his/her way past all the dope boys and hood rats and disaproving looks from old folks because he simply can't not be who he is. That takes balls. That is hard. These loud ass queeny hood rat dudes get on my nerves, Yes they do. They are so loud and ghetto and GAY on the bus "Girl? Miss Thing" sharing all their business with everyone in the vicinity. It's annoying and tacky to me at times but I must say I admire their..ya know BALLS. It takes alot more heart to act like that in an enviorment where such actions are deemed at the best disgusting and at the worst damnable.

A straight friend of mine recently asked me about sex with dudes. "How can you feel masculine sleeping with a man?" I never really looked at it that way. I mean I'm a top dude. If your halfway decent looking and have a shred of humor or personality it's not that hard to get some female to open her legs up in the ATL. Not much of a challenge. But me, I have a BROTHA with dreads who has girls and kids with his legs up in the air laying underneath me. Feminine? Far from it I feel like super-nigga! What's HARD?

Black Mambas and Suicide Bombers. I say that to myself anytime I find myself stressed out and feeling sorry for myself. I say it often. Sometimes hourly.

Ya know those things in life that stress us out, but when put in perspective shouldn't really? The car won't start and it's the first day of work. Can't find the $400 Droid.Can't get online to check my account.I think the kid is smoking weed, I think my man is cheating it goes on and on. I'm not saying these things are not things to be upset over. I have freaked out over almost every one of those examples at one time or another in my life. I even let the stress turn into depression messing up entire days, weeks even messing up other peoples days and weeks. I'm saying our lives could be so much worse.

Now when faced with crap like that, I just say Black Mambas and Suicide Bombers.

See even though my lost celly is hella annoying, at some point I realized how much worse my life could be. I could be living in a Jungle somewhere having to walk up a mountain with a bowl on my head everyday past black mambas and tigers to get clean water. I have seen those people on The Discovery Channel doing just that and they look happy as clams. Hungry to us in the um...US is having to resort to Oodles of Noodles.

I'm sitting in Starbucks I can't get online and can't figure out why and really really need to check my online work schedule and it pisses me off. For a second. Then I realize that if I was sitting in a cafe in another part of the world the woman who just walked in might just...ya know blow the fuck up. Not alot of suicide bombers in GA Starbucks. So few in fact we hardly ever think about it. Suddenly not being able to log in while sipping my $6.00 Mocha Grande seems sorta petty. I could be laying on the floor embedded with nails and shrapnel. There are people who today had to ponder that fact when deciding where to go get coffee or java or whatever the hell they drink in the Mid East.

I knew this was a good weekend date when yesterday morning while watching a rerun of Wonder Woman (he got points for just sitting through that) Lynda Carter in her WW glory looked out into the night and yelled at an unseen foe "Whoever or whatever you are...human or otherwise...I challenge you!" My date looked at me and goes "That's exactly what I would say to Michelle Bachmann if I ever have the misfortune of meeting her"

I thought to myself "this guy I can maybe work with"

Then I thought about how easy it is to not like people like Michelle Bachmann. My generation is the first generation who have the ability to basically buy our childhood back. Thanks to DVDs, Amazon.com, EBay and the Internet we can fill our lives with the toys, TV shows and movies that remind us of more innocent times. Yeah I know the Hollywood machine that continues to churn out these remakes updates and sequels of ideas first seen in the 70's don't really give a crap about honoring childhood memories or nostalgia, the simple fact is that the name recognition associated with these franchises means instant profit. Still art, and creative worth can be found in the most cynical of motives and this past year we seem to be almost attacked with remakes and re imaginings of almost every TV show, cartoon or movie that ever graced our huge black and white rabbit ears tube television. Here are a few examples of the good, the bad and the ugly

THOR (then)

Although never a huge THOR fan growing up I did follow his adventures in Avengers comics and his appearances on TV (Spider man and His Amazing Friends, his own cartoon) Thor was so powerful, so confident it took a lot of the drama out of his adventures. He was an immortal God of course he was not going to die and if he did he would be back with the quickness. Thor also had a huge cast of characters and back story both on earth and Asgard which at times could be hard to follow.

THOR (now)

The 2011 film, in Marvels attempt to streamline it's products was fun, fast easy too follow and most of all true to the source material. The movie made me a Thor fan faster than 30 years of comics or cartoons ever did. You can go home again!

CHARLIE'S ANGELS (then)

Well I'm biased. It was my favorite show growing up. It all came down to the casting. For the first 3 seasons Aaron Spelling knew how to cast actors who were talented and likable enough to rise above some horrible scripts and direction. Light, fluffy harmless and fun. The Angels proved that women on TV could solve the cases and take down the bad guys just as effectively as James Rockford or Starsky and Hutch

CHARLIE'S ANGELS (now)

While it is a little early to judge (an ep has not been shown yet) from the promo there seems to be things to like and dislike. First off, on the plus side we have, after over 30 years a black ass kicking angel. That's enough to get me to sit through the pilot. While multi ethnic angels are long over due I'm not crazy that (from the looks of the promo) this seems to me a TV version of the movie as opposed to an updating of the 70's TV show. Fingers crossed. Too soon to tell if you can go home again with the angels

WES CRAVEN MOVIES (then)

Wes Craven has had popular scary movies released in the 70's, 80's 90's and 21st century. His slasher horror from the 70's (Hills and Last house) were violent, disturbing and dark. Almost unpleasant experiences to watch. But well made and effective. As a kid catching a Craven flick on late night cable was as good as it got. And I'm talking before Freddy Kruger...

Yeah I know I could have included trailers for the remakes of The Hills Have Eyes and Last House On The Left but I didn't because (frankly) Craven neither wrote or directed those recent (well done remakes) Him having a producer credit on both remakes just means he allowed them the rights to his movies and he gets to cash a fat check. True Craven movies in the 21st century include bombs like My Soul To Take and Cursed. Craven seems to have had some trouble with new material connecting with a 21st century audience with the exception of the Scream Franchise. Scream 4 was classic Craven. One decent movie in a sea of crap does not a win make. You can't go home again.

THE BIONIC WOMAN (then)

The Bionic Woman preceded both Wonder Woman and Charlies Angels on ABC in 1975. At first just a spin off of The Six Million Dollar Man The Bionic Woman managed to surpass her male counterpart in both popularity (higher ratings) critical acclaim (Emmy for the star) and it stayed on the air 2 seasons longer.

Most of them suck beyond the telling but like most other romantic idiots who are my age we will go to, watch and buy our childhood back. Because nostalgia feels good. This is not a made up or even embellished tale. This happened to me yesterday morning and since it actually happened to ME I have no other choice than to accept the evidence of my eyes and admit I was wrong. There is a God. Which means I am fucked. Oh and it's the Jehovah' witness version of God so I'm like fucked to the Ninth Circle of Hell.

So I'm sitting in my living room writing, enjoying an episode of I Almost Got Away With It on Discovery ID when I hear a knock on the door. Dewyne looks through the peep hole and tells me it's three or those Jehovah folks. Now living in an apt complex next to a major highway means we get a lot of this. I have a typical little Shtick I do when they come calling. Typically they knock on the door and start talking to me about their beliefs and I tell them “My invisible magical friend is better than your invisible magical friend” tell them have a nice day and shut the door. On the two other occasions I did this they either laughed and walked off or just walked off. Either result was the result I was looking for so cool. The only time I don't do that joke is if the witness is really really old or really really young because I'm not an asshole, I'm a smart ass. Well on this particular day D was here and didn't believe me when I told him this is how I handled annoying Jesus freaks. So I answered the door, and this 40 something lady goes “good morning (9am Sat) I don't want to take up too much of your time” and I stopped her “don't worry you won't, my beliefs are My magical invisible friend is better than your invisible magical friend” and she was nice and she laughed and as she attempted to say something else I gently shut the door. So my friend laughed and I went back to my writing and not 5 mins later we hear this massive pounding on the wall from the apt next to us. It sounded like someone was nailing a picture on the wall but that could not be right because nobody lives in the apt next to me (just how I like it). So I peep out the curtains and see a moving truck and a black truck with the plates Gods Property. Now at this point I'm confused. Is the Gods Property car my new neighbors? Its parked where my new neighbors would park. Does the Gods Property car belong to the Jehovah's witnesses I insulted? Oh god can you imagine having a Jehovah witness as a next door neighbor? What if at the start of every day when they go out knocking on doors they start with you because your right next door? I know I would, it's logical. After 6 months of this I might become a Jehovah's witness just to stop the constant knocking every morning. Is that what is happening did I just insult my new Jehovah witness neighbor who was simply trying do her job/meet her new neighbor all in one fell swoop? Or did the God's property plate simply mean a member of Kirk Franklin's former choir that he screwed over for royalties has fallen on hard times and moved in my complex because this is a hard time complex. As my mind reeled I saw a man and woman unload some cloths from the Gods Property car. So it seems they in fact were not the witnesses I ran off but the car apparently they borrowed from the lord.

So later that day I went to take the trash out and low and behold the Gods property girl happened to come out of her apt just as I was leaving. So I introduced myself and welcomed her to the hood and the first thing she says to me, I kid you not is “praise god” which is a nice thing to say however if it's the very first thing you say to me after I introduce myself and welcome you I have a feeling we won't be having morning coffee together. So since I have no control over visceral reactions and since she didn't seem to want to say hello or what the hell her name was I looked at the Gods Property plate and I go “So does God allow you to borrow his car often or is he all “write down the mileage and replace the gas about it” and she goes “oh baby I”M Gods property not the car. That's ME” (loudly) and I go “hey I can relate. I freakin LOVE Superman 2 and at times I think of myself as Zods Property and she looked at me like I just spoke in Latin and I walked off. Until that happens in front of my friend he probably won't believe that one either.

So the lesson I learned is this. If you make fun of a knocking Jehovah's witness to their face twice and no one else is home it's cool. Now if you you do it a third time (everything is threes with these people) with someone else home then five mins later a person with license plates that say Gods Property will move in next door to you and only be able to muster “God is good” and praise Jesus” as a conversation offering. It's like that movie The Ring. So apparently God is real and is of the Jehovah variety and has a sense of humor and I'm completely fucked. Oh Happy Easter!

Deity Wars! God v.s. Zeus ( super offensive version)

Yeah all u Jesus freaks I know Blasphemy, I mean how can I pit God against Zeus when Zeus was just a MYTH?...anyhoo....

According to those nuns that taught me the first 7 years of my life God is all powerful, all knowing, all loving and well kinda moody (see Old Testament) Nobody and nothing can take on God (which of course begs the question of why he lets Satan and evil and Sean Hannity exist but hey who am I to judge?) Well all things being equal if all the major deities exist (because I know you hate to hear this Christians but some people worship Buddha and Allah and used to worship..yes Zeus) and their was indeed a big ol battle of the deities who would win? Sorry to say from everything we know about God,I think him and his crew would get spanked by Zeus and his boys.

(I'm making this God v.s. Zeus I am excluding...Buddha because he would simply not fight and Allah? He would probably wait to see who won then show up at the award ceremony strapped with explosives (sorry...am I targeted for death now?)

God seems powerful but if you think about it he's kind of a sucker punch bully. He reigns death and destruction down plenty in The Bible 1.o (OT) but this is usually to helpless mortals who get their cities destroyed for having too much sex.

We have never really seen God go up against another God. I mean he can't even banish Satan.What are Gods fighting skills? We know God can create life, control the weather and elements and destroy petty humans. But Zeus and his boys? That is some real fire power there. Think of the battle? Hercules can use his strength to grab Gods arms while Hermes pummels him with super speed punches leaving Zeus open to zap him with a lightning bolt. Battle over pretty quickly. And Gods "team" v.s. Zeus folks? Please! Poseidon would tip over Noah's Arc with a huge tidal wave.Now to be fair Moses probably could step in and part Poseidon's waters only to receive a Trident to the abdomen. Jesus the carpenter v.s. Ares the God of war? Please. Virgin Mary gets shot by an arrow from Artemis cross bow? I mean you would think God would make his family a little more powerful when Marys only superpower is the ability to make Bronze age intellects believe she had a Virgin Birth. Yeah sure Jesus can come back from the dead but that would take 3 days The Pantheon would wipe out all 12 Apostles in like 3 hours. Harpy's v.s. Angels? Prophets v.s. Cyclops? It all seems so one sided.
I was raised to fear god, he was listening to my thoughts and would banish me to Hell if I pissed him off too much. Now that I crunched the numbers I'm not really so intimidated. Banish me to Hell? Top Ten Final Girls

The Final girl.She's pretty, smart and hopefully if the director did his job right, likable. After Michael or Jason or Freddy have dispatched her boyfriend, her best friend and her (usually) more promiscuous girlfriends it's up to the Final Girl to send Leatherface or whomever back to hell (until the next sequel). Who are the best? Why? Glad you asked or this blog would be pointless. I'm confining my list to actual slasher flicks (Sigorny Weaver can't make the list, yes she was the last woman standing in the Alien movies but those are not slashers) get it? Got it? Good. Don't sleep with your man or toke no weed and you may live to see Halloween 4.

#10 Alice (Friday The 13Th 1980) played by Adriene King

Scream Queen Cred:Friday the 13Th, Friday the 13Th part 2.

Why she is #10: She beheaded Jason's mother in part one so she gets points for that but was killed in the first five Min's of part 2. Although she did a pretty good job fighting for her life her opponent was a 55 year old crazy lady in a mom sweater. Compared to what the Friday the 13th Final girls had to contend with in the next 11 movies Alice had it pretty easy. Also deduct points for failing to notice any clues or save anyone. She was he final girl because she happened to be the last councilor to go out looking for a missing friend, not due to wits or skill.

#9 Sydney (Scream 1996)Played by Neve Cambell

Scream Queen Cred: Scream 1-3 and soon to be 4

Why she is #9: Syd gets points for spunk, a tragic connection to the killer and the fact that she managed to turn the tables on 2 slashers in one movie. She is #9 because she wasn't really the "final" girl. Courtney Cox, David Arquette and Jamie Kennedy lived to see Scream 2.

#8 Jamie Lloyd (Halloween 4, 5 and 6) played by Danielle Harris and Jaycee Brandy (pt 6)

Scream Queen Cred: Halloween 4 and 5 Halloween 1 and 2 remake, Hatchet 2
Why she is #8: Huge points for fending off her uncle Michael Meyers in Halloween 4 and 5. At the age of 10 that had to affect her little psyche. Also Jamie gets points for turning evil at the end of part 4 even though they abandoned the idea by part 5. Danielle Harris wanted to much money for part 6 so producers recast her and killed her off a half hour in.

#7 Kristen (Nightmare On elm Street 3: Dream Warriors) played by Patricia Arquette

Why he is #7: Kristen has the power to pull other kids into her dreams. She is also a skilled gymnast in her dreams which leads to many a kick to Freddy's face. Points deducted for Patricia refusing to appear in part 4.Like Jamie Lloyd The character was re-cast and killed off.

#6 Erin(Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake 2003) Played by Jessica Beal

Scream Queen cred: This movie. Plus I'm sure dating Justin Timberlake can be horrific.

Why she is #6: Not only does she take on Leather face while looking very hot in her wife beater, she actually acts in this movie something she avoided during her many seasons on 7Th Heaven

#5 Nancy (Nightmare On Elm Street 1984)played by Heather Langencamp

Scream Queen cred: Nightmare on Elm Street 1, 3 and Wes Cravens New Nightmare

Why she is #5: Nancy is strong, smart and dates Johnny Depp. She also learns how to set a series of traps for Freddy and trap him in the real world. Extra points for having so many complex relationships in one film. She has to deal with her lush of a mother and father who thinks she is crazy, their divorce, her tragic best friend and boyfriend not to mention Freddy. That's a lot of relationships for acharacter to have in a genre film.

#4 Jesse Walsh (Nightmare On Elm street Part 2 Freddies Revenge 1985)played by Mark Patton

Why he is #4

This movie is listed as the most unintentionally gay slasher flick of all time. Look it up. I'm not buying the unententional aspect of it, I just see hella subtext.It is. Hilarious, homoerotic at every turn, the final girl is in fact a dude running around screaming like a chick. He is much more emotionally connected to his male co-star than his leading lady and his gym coach makes passes at him throughout the flick. All good things this flick is all good things.

#3 Tina (Friday the 13Th part 7 The New Blood 1987 played by Lar Park Lincoln

Why she is #3

Finally a final girl that can do Jason some real damage. Why it took 7 F13 movies to pit Jason up against a telekinetic is beyond me but it was well worth the wait. Tina dropped a roof on Jason, electrocuted him, squeezed his head with his hockey mask, and set him on fire...all with the power of her mind. Minus 2 points for allowing her mother to die but plus one for saving her boyfriend.

#2 Ginny (Friday the 13Th part 2 1981) played by Amy Steele

Why she is #2: She was almost #1. Not only is Ginny one of the most clever survivor girls ever (she dresses up like Jason's mom to fool him into letting his guard down) not only does she have balls (kicking Jason in the balls and attacking him with a chainsaw takes balls) but Amy Steele's performance is by far thebes acted final girl in 12 Friday the 13th movies. On top of all that Ginny smokes weed, drinks and has sex wit her boyfriend...and still lives to tell about. Not killed off in a sequel (Laurie, Alice) not driven mad (Kris part 3) Ginny figures out who and what Jason is and uses this knowledge to save her and her boyfriends life. She was almost #1

#1 Laurie Strode (Halloween 1, 2 H20 and Ressuerction)

Why she is #1 How could she not be. She was the first, the best. Laurie Strode was indeed smart and sexually repressed (as final girls tend to be) but she sure as hell hit that joint Annie had in the car on the way to baby-sit the kids on that Halloween night knowhatimsayin. She not only managed to shoot, stab,and gouge MM's eyes out with a coat hanger she protected 2 kids and later her own son and his girlfriend from her Boogyman of a brother. She is also by far the most prolific final girl on the list survivng 3 Halloween movies and 4 other flicks in the slasher genere before going mainstream. Oh and her Mamma Janet Leigh got stabbed in the shower in Psycho.

I live in ATL and stories about New Birth and the Pastor Bishop Eddie Long have been going around for years. I have friends who used to be some of his "spiritual sons" and I have attended the massively tacky church.

Maybe it's not him. Maybe it's me.

Maybe asking men in your church to refer to you as "Daddy" (including celebs such as Usher) is normal and spoken about in scripture. Maybe that's not an odd strange and typical behavior of a manipulator. Maybe I'm reading too much into it. Maybe it's me. Maybe singling out young vulnerable man in your congregation (all of whom happen to be very good looking by the way) and then taking them on expensive trips and sharing hotel rooms with them is written somewhere in proverbs, I sure in hell ain't looking that shit up. Maybe having sex with 17 year olds and claiming it's part of spiritual bonding is typical church behavior. I would not know. I'm laying on my living room couch eating Fruit loops watching Flintstones on Sunday morning not paying tithes to support child molesters expensive trips with his tricks.

A church is a business not a Wellness center. Maybe I'm jumping the gun on these accusations. Maybe A millionaire pastor like Long has a plausible explanation on why he insist of sharing hotel rooms with his 17 year old male traveling companions , maybe a double room would be to expensive what with the mortgage on your multi million dollar mansion to pay for. Maybe all 3 unrelated victims are making this up as well as the dozens of other men who have whispered about Long's tendencies for years in the Atlanta area. Maybe it's me.

Sheep are dumb animals who are herded and controlled by a Shepherd for the purpose of using them for profit.Hmmmm maybe flock is the perfect word for y'all. Me? I have never in life needed another man to explain my connection or relationship with God to me. If I want to know what the Bible says I will read it although I prefer my fiction to be written by Stephen King, I do have a God given brain for that. I have parents to teach me the difference between "right" and "wrong". As in It's wrong to condem a behavior you engage in on the regular.

Maybe this is just one of the greatest most intricate conspiracies of all time and those pictures Long sent to his teenage flock of himself in tight spandex were Gods way of saying get to a gym. What would I know, I'm not sanctified or saved. I'm just a godless fag who believes all people regardless of gender, color or sexuality deserve to be treated with equality both here and in the afterlife. Maybe it's just me....

People keep asking "Is building a Mosque near ground zero disrespectful? Legal? Tacky? Wrong? Well if I lived in NYC my take on the whole issue may have been completely different but then again if I grew up on the West Bank my view of America and democracy may be different as well. We are what life shows us.

I don't think this is a very difficult question to answer. Yes it's legal, we can build places of worship on any property we own. And we also have freedom of religion in this country and that freedom includes all religions, not just the one your grandma told you would get you to heaven. It includes those strangely dressed people who get on their knees in middle of the day and pray to Allah. And isn't that the real issue here? We as a country are simply freaked out and afraid of these people who wear veils over their heads and speak that funny language. They are so easy to pick out in a crowd. I mean if you take a Catholic, a Baptist, a Mormon and a non practicing Jew and line them up they are going to look like you and I right? Unless it's a catholic priest or a hasidic cosher Jew most peoples faith is not as obvious to discern based on the way they look or dress. Most Muslims are.

Look at Jim Jones. He dressed in jeans and a tee shirt. He professed himself a Christian and he not only ordered the murder a congressman and 2 reporters he orchestrated one of the largest mass suicides in history in the name of "God".

So logically any time a Christan church is build near Jones town their should be a big debate about it because "Christians and the Christian faith is responsible for the Jones town Massacre" just like Muslims caused 911? Right? Wrong.

But since their is not a Christian way of dressing like their is a Muslim way of dressing we are not as freaked out by that right? So when his actions indirectly and directly led to the death of all those kids during the Waco siege (and before u blame the government, Koresh would not let the kids out) should we not have protested that "Christians are responsible for killing babies?" Should we have demanded that Christian Churches NOT be built within the city limits of Waco out of respect for the dead? No? Why not? Oh he was not a "real" Christan just a crazy person claiming the faith. Why can't we look at Muslims and the terrorist with those same eyes? I'll tell you why because they are so obvious with the way they dress and the way they worship. I personally have no interest in any religion that treats women as less than equal or encourages homophobia or classicism. Frankly Catholics and Muslims have that in common. I don't know whether the Muslims faith encourages violence or not. Muslims say no, but my question is why don't we hold other faiths like Christainy who have produced many crazy false prophets and mass murderers up to the same scrutiny we do Islam. I'll tell you why. The Burqa. It's obvious, it's different...it's nothing like the God my grandma taught be about. You know the REAL God.....please....

The real question is does the Muslim faith endorse violence and terrorism because if it does, then building a mosque near ground zero is indeed tacky tacky and wrong.If it does not I suggest the people up in arms about Muslims building a mosque go attack the next blond haired blue eyed white person they see. Maybe it's just me but there are some things I see human beings do that will never make sense to me. All I have to do is glance at the news any given day and I see all kinds of ridiculous decision making that makes me really question people's sanity and thought process. Of course then again they may be the sane ones and I'm just crazy as hell. Either way. 5 things I just don't get:

#1) Why would a black woman call up a female white conservative talk show host with a history of being a homophobic close minded racist idiot and ask her if her white husband calling her a "nigger" was a bad thing? It's like me asking Hitler what his views on interracial dating are.

#2 Why would a married couple facing problems go to a catholic priest who has never been married or even had sex with a woman and ask him how to make a marriage and intimacy work? The only time I ever hear about catholic priests sex lives usually involves ten year old alter boys. I don't see what they have to offer beyond advice on ducking child molesting charges.

#3 Why would a human being take a belief they have (their version of god) and decide that everyone else's version is wrong and actually use this belief as a reason to judge and treat other human beings as lesser or flawed? With no evidence to prove or disprove their belief above and beyond someone elses what type of person would actually vote to deny someone elses rights based on what very well may be an old Fairy tale?

#4 Why would a group of people...oh lets say a political party who claim to believe in God, country and good old fashioned family values continue to promote causes and agendas that are classiest, lack compassion for their fellow man and even common sense? Why would these same people choose to have the most racist, selfish and anti-intellectual people represent them?

#5 At what point did being stupid, heartless, selfish and close minded become patriotic virtues. Did i miss a meeting?

I was simply going to link the NYT article about The Pope and Catholic Church and be done with it. Then I thought about my experience with the catholic church, not just dealing with a priest that sexually fondled me but the general feeling I had being raised by a church that told me from a very young age that I was burning in hell...no ifs ands or buts about it. Gay sex was a sin and the fact that I even THOUGHT about having sex with boys was a damnable offense. I guess the only acceptable same sex relationship to the catholics is that special relationship between a priest and a 10 year old boy...fucking hypocrites....onward...

I took up your challenge to find biblical references on homosexuality. To start with, I went to the Catechism that had 4 references (see atch).

Gen 19:1-29 This is the story of Lot in Sodom where the men of the town wanted to gang rape his two guests. Lot offered his two daughters to them instead but eventually the guests were saved by angels blinding the men of the town. Lot then moved out of town into the mountains where he had intercourse with his two daughters. There is nothing about this story that could be considered moral preference - whether it was gang rape, offering your daughters to protect two male guests, or Lot and his daughters incest.

Romans 1:24-27 "In consequences, God delivered them up in their lusts to unclean practices; they engaged in the mutual degradation of their bodies, these men who exchanged the truth of God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator - blessed be his name forever. The footnote for this section in the New American Bible states that it was a response to pagan practices. This could have ibeen referring to male homosexual intercourse but it could also have been referring many other "considered unclean" practices such as oral sex.

1 Corinthians 6:10 "Do not deceive yourselves: no fornicators, idolators, or adulterers; no sodomites, thieves, misers, or drunkards, no slanderers or robbers will inherit God's kingdom." This is pretty long list. In no way does it imply that sodomy is any worse than miserliness or drunkenness or any of the other "sins." We tend to accept young couples living together (fornication) before marriage, but seem to treat homosexual behavior as so much worse than the others.

1 Timothy 1:10 "...fornicators, sexual perverts, kidnappers, liars, perjurers, and those who in other ways flout the sound teaching..." Once again the list is long and implies lying is just as bad as sexual perversion. Given some of our clergy's child molestation and their bishop's cover ups, I think consentual relations between two males or females is very minor and doesn't deserve the strong negative reaction of so many Catholic males.

I like what Catechism said in para 2358 "They must be accepted with respect compassion and sensitivity. Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided.

If there are other biblical references please let me know so that I can check them out.

We sat through the entire thing, although I was online editing video footage the entire time so my AADD was taken care of. Here are thoughts I jotted down as I watched the proceedings.

#1 Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin had a very easy, funny rapport. It worked, it did not feel forced or tiresome. Ben Stiller? Not so much.

#2 Ok before I get accused of paranoia let me just say I call em like I see em. I find it interesting that the lead actress Oscar went to a white woman who comes to the ghetto to save an overweight inner city youth. The best supporting Oscar went to a black actress who lives in the ghetto and destroyed an overweight inner city youth..interesting.

#3 Sarah Jessica Parker takes high fashion so far that I don't get it anymore.Was her hair supposed to look like that.

#4 So many acceptance speeches interrupted by others on stage. Didn't your mama teach u no manners?

#5 I love Saundra Bullok. She once again proves if you want an Oscar and your female you need to either A) play a real life woman who defends the weak (Julia Roberts Erin Brockovich) or u need to ugly yourself up (Monster and Monsters Ball Theron and Berry respectively) or just get the hell beat out of u and die at the end (every Hilary Swank flick ever made)

I'm always a bit shocked when I receive emails and pm's that oppose health care and Govt involvement in certain programs because "People need to get off their butt and start working" or "Hard working Americans are sick of taking care of the lazy and directionless" (code for lazy black folks). Fiscal responsibility is, all of the sudden a huge priority for these people who had no problem in the past sending this country deeper into dept to support fake wars and tax cuts for the rich.

What Galaxy do these people who send me this shit live in? Have these folks not been paying attention to..ya know..life? Life has shown me, Greg Jurick Blackshear that:

Most people who are not working are not shiftless and lazy. They are victims of a government that has for the last 8 years outsourced jobs and implemented policy that only benefited the very rich. We as a civilized society have the ability to take care of our sick and poor. It is what separates us from animals.

Life has shown me that as with most things there are of course those who will take advantage of government programs and assistance. I agree that there are indeed some lazy opportunist. The percent is so small, maybe 5%? So if 95 people are hard working honest people that due to circumstance and bad times find themselves out of work, without health care you would deny those 95 people help because your fear that the other 5 are getting a free ride? That's crazy talk.

Life has also shown me that not everyone who has money, who has a good life has worked hard to get it. There are those who have benefits and privilege not because they are hard working Americans not because they are somehow better than the have nots, but because they are lucky and privileged. We had a president for 8 years who fit into that category. Those people are as well a small percentage. Its life.

What I don't see from the republicans, from the opposers of this bill that will indeed change lives (mine included) an alternative plan. They say they want universal health care for the uninsured but they have no plan. They it "socialism" when we try to help the sick and patriotism when they try and invade countries who never invaded us. When it's breaks for the rich reconciliation is a good thing, when its benefits for the uninsured it's the "Fall of Democracy as we know it". Its silly, it's transparent its sad.

They site Obama's "failed Presidency" yet he has barely finished the first year of his first term. Its like calling a basketball game in the first quarter when the score is 10-6. They call it "Obamacare" as way of scaring racist into thinking Ossama Bin Ladin is going to be their primary care provider. I'm numb with anger. I'm confused as to why this "greatest country on the planet" can't take care of its sick and poor the same way every other industrialized does.

Watched her speak at The Tea Party convention. I feel more confident that ever that this woman will never get anywhere near The White House. The reason I have this new found confidence is because I have more faith in my friends and family who are Republican. I know them to be caring intelligent people who could not possibly fall for such transparent tactics. Here are ten reasons why I am not worried about Palin based on this one speech

#1 Palin excels at preaching to the choir. In a room full of supporters she has to do little more than insult the president and spew rhetoric. This keeps her base happy but will not gain her any new support, which she needs if she is to become a serious contender. The average independent on the fence needs substance, which she sorely lacks.

#2 At some point Palin will have to appear on Meet The Press. That's a whole lot different than a fox News softball job. I have no doubt in my mind that my cat Rocky could do better handling real intellectual questions than Palin can, and my cat rocky has been dead for like 30 years.

#3 Palin criticized Obama for reaching out to our enemies instead of destroying them. She has stated on more than one occasion that God has put her in this position for a reason. If Jesus was here how would he deal with our enemies? By trying to understand and dialogue with them to avoid war and death or by destroying them? Even though I have not seen the inside of a church in the 21st century I know enough about Christianity to know what side of this debate Jesus would be on.

#4 Sarah Palin has proven over and over that she doesn't think so good.

#5 Hypocrisy rules the hour. Criticizes Obama for reading a teleprompter as she reads her notes written on her hand. I tried that shit in Mrs Esteps 12 grade govt class, it didn't work there either. The word retard is only offensive when uttered by a democrat.

#6 She wants to declare war with Iran. Iran is a more sophisticated than Iraq Again, thank god for all my reasonable intelligent Republican kin. Yeah another war is just what this country needs.

#7 She doesn't seem to really know what she is saying. She has a inconsistent views and no answers for problems. Just silly sound bites that when played back make no sense.

#8 She shoots moose from helicopters. This will ensure she never gets the vote from the Rocky and Bullwinkle fans and I looked...hella Rocky and Bullwinkle fan sites Sarah.

#9 She accepted 100k for this appearance. Tickets to the event were 500 bucks. remember these are the fiscal conservatives right?

#10 She is a liar. In one breath she criticized the Obama administrations handling of the attempted handling of the Christmas day underwear bomber, saying this showed bad judgment on this administrations part even though the rules followed were those set up by the previous (Republican) administration.

Not only that, this was the Tea Bag convention. We are a coffee nation. Off the top of my head I can name Folgers, Maxwell House Tasters Choice 8 o clock...I can't name a Tea off the top of my head.

* I still don't get the whole Taylor Swift thing. Every time I see her up to bat on one of these things she never delivers. Her duet with Stevie Nicks was embarrassing to both. Nicks seemed to rise above the situation but Swift sounded horrible. I'm sure Taylor Swift is a sweet girl, but so is my dentist's Secretary.

* While I'm on the subject the announcer before the break said and I quote "coming up next, the Grammy for best pop vocal performance. Will Taylor Swift beat her Elders?" I'm sure Beyonce's mama cussed some Grammy producer out for that.

* Although Pink did a similar high wire act during the MTV video awards it was actually more effective here. Plus their was no Kanye to steal her thunder 5 mins later. Great performance.

* I need to remember to get dish detergent after work tomorrow. Not washing dishes for this many days has to be violating some type of city ordinance.

* Whats the deal with the 3d? I have no desire to see a 89 year old Smokey Robinsons liver spots coming at me in an extra demension.

* Bridge Over Troubled Water performed by Mary J Blige and Andrea Bocelli was my favorite performance of the evening. Dave Mathews was a close second.

* Nice to see Beyonce at one of these events. She is so under exposed.

* Drake continues underwhelm. File him and Taylor under apathetic. Is Travis Barker bound by contract to play drums for any and every hip hop artist that perform at these awards shows?

*The Grammys usually feel anticlimactic after the much more energetic and young MTV music awards. This year producers seemed to realize this and focused on music as opposed to spectacle and it pretty much worked. I give it a B

Eight Is Enough was my shit. Not only did it have a family with 8 kids, not only were they liberal (you would never see Jan Brady getting caught with some pot, or going on the pill like the Bradford girls did) but the show came on at 8pm on Weds making in Charlies Angels lead in show for almost 4 years. Whats not to love? Something about this show got me when I was a kid. As i got older and started researching it origins I became fascinated with not only the show but the real life family that the show was based on. So lets talk about both in a series of "Bet ya didn't know"

The Real Life "Bradford's" were based on real life Newspaper columnist, Crossfire co-host Thomas Braden. Braden was famous for being an ex CIA agent, ultra liberal Kennedy aid and buying the The Blade-Tribune with a loan he received from Nelson Rockefeller. He married his wife Joan who became a prominent Washington Hostess and assistant to Jackie Kennedy. Joan actually ghost wrote a column for Jackie on the trials and tribulations on being a Washington wife. The Braden's had Eight Kids and eventually he wrote a book "Eight is Enough". The children's real life names and ages were used for the show David, Mary, Joanie, Susan, Nancy, Elizabeth and Nicholas. In her autobiography Joan stated they had an open marriage, and suggested she was one of JFK's many lovers! Those Eight is enough folks are wild!!

Now the TV family was almost as scandalous as the real life Braden's. The show was cast in 76 and a pilot was shot. Mark Hamil was cast as oldest brother David but he had also begun work on a little move called Star Wars. After the pilot David was re-cast as was Tommy and Nancy. That's right teen heartthrob Willie Ame's was not in the pilot. So the show took off but after only 4 episodes were shot the actress (Diana Hyland) who played the mother started losing her battle with Cancer. She was in her 40's dating a 20 something John Travolta whom she co-starred with in The Boy In The Plastic Bubble. Ms Hyland died 12 days after the first ep aired leaving the family minus a mother. Luckily Betty Buckly fresh off "Carrie" and Broadways Cats joined the cast as step mom to be Abby.

That's a LOT of drama for both the real life Braden's and their TV counterparts. Of course it didn't end there. Eight Is Enough was notorious for having cast drug problems (especially Willie Ames,Adam Rich and Susan Richardson) Richardson claims to have been kidnapped by some Korean filmmakers and forced to act in a move (wtf?) and Oldest daughter Mary (Lani O Grady) died of a drug overdose a few years ago. The actress that played 2nd oldest daughter Joanie (Laurie Walters) was actually older than all the kids and the same age as her tv step mom Abby! Ames went on to Charles In Charge, Adam rich went on to various stints in Rehab and most of the others faded into obscurity. Ironically the actor who probably fared the best was a late addition, Ralph machio, who joined in season 5 in a desperate attempt to save the show went onto star as the Karate Kid. That had to piss Tommy and Elizabeth off.

I loved me some Eight is Enough when I was a kid. I liked the way the kids acted toward each other, like actual siblings. The Bradford kids were smarter than the Partridge family and edgier than the Brady Bunch. I loved them before I found out all the dirt behind the scenes. This new info simply makes me love them more.

This is a lesson I have learned in the last few years. Although I would like to blame the current trend of rich successful people (who happen to be white) encouraging others to not care about fellow human beings on Obama backlash, and I do think some of it is backlash, this type of callous hate disguised as a point of view has been going on a long time. Remember when Katrina hit? I remember watching Fox News (know your enemy my father taught me about that network) and the talking heads were blaming all the death and destruction on the fact that the people of LA were stupid enough to live there? The government’s lackluster response to that situation showed the world what we really think of our own didn’t it? The then sitting presidents mother, of all people even made a comment about how LUCKY some of the displaced victims were to be able to sleep at the Superdome? House, Shmouse I guess was her point.

Now cut to 2010 and another community of lower income brown folks have a natural disaster occur. Low and behold out come our Christian leaders (Robertson) well not mine but a shitload of Americans Republican leader (Rush) and some idiot from ESPN to encourage people not to help starving, displaced and dying people because….well frankly its because they are poor and black. Of course these racist simpletons can’t come out and say that so they speak in code about “not wanting to waste money on people who won’t use it properly” and “not wanting to support a government that they see as corrupt and wasteful” Hey Rush you’re a George Bush supporter you have not only been supporting a government that was corrupt and wasteful under his terms, you contributed to both of those situations.

Katrina and Haiti were huge natural disasters and have been met by some of these people (who happen to be Christian and white ) with apathy and hate, yet the Tsunami hit or a hurricane in Fla I don’t remember talking heads blaming those tragedies on the victims. Hell Natalie Holloway disappeared what 6 years ago, and certain networks became “find the missing white girl at all costs” 24 hour news channels. I can’t imagine saying “Oh she was drunk and acting like a slut, it was her fault”

When victims have blond hair and have money they become exempt from blame. But if our hair is nappy and our skin is brown and we are poor then either it’s our fault for not preparing for a earthquake, or we are cursed by God.

As far as the “I’m making it about race” thing and …well..fuck you. I lived the first 18 years of my life exclusively around white folks, some of them rich. I know plenty of good, loving intelligent non racist white folks with money.

Every white person with money is not a racist. It just so happens that in this situation, every racist…is a rich white person.

Rush, Pat, stupid guy from ESPN who’s name I won’t bother to google…y’all have multiple houses, you are all multi millionaires. If you don’t want to give money to sick starving homeless children then don’t. But to encourage your fans to not only ignore human suffering but to blame said suffering on the victims is pathetic and evil.

I calmed down a little after reading Pat Robertson's hateful stupid comments yesterday.

I think what is so distressing to me is not so much that he is a racist, classist idiot, I have known that for years. Not so much that he promotes ignorance, he has done that for years. What is so shocking to me is the fact than any man of God would use his voice, his television time, his influence to hurt instead of heal. A horrible disaster happens that kills a shit load of people. You can respond with kindness and love. You can pray for the dead, pray for the survivors or....you can say "fuck em they deserved it". That is how Pat R decided to use his God given voice yesterday. A voice of righteous hate. How pathetic.

If Pat Robertson's grandchild gets in a car accident, if his daughter gets breast cancer it's because God doesn't love him any more right? Because when natural disasters happen,when accidents happen when people get sick its not because of tectonic plates shifting, its not because of drunk drivers or hereditary illness...it's all Gods righteous anger. Or is it only Gods righteous anger when bad things happen to poor people and niggers?

You know who ELSE is to blame. All you Christians who sit back and do not denounce this mans evil. He is the founder of the fucking CHRISTIAN BROADCASTING NETWORK. When I was 8 years old running around the playground choosing which girls were going to be fembots and which girls were going to be Charlies Angels, politics didn't mean shit to me. Or them. Hell i didn't know nor care who my playmates parents voted for in the primaries; as long as my friends made the proper bionic sound when using Jamie Summers bionic ear their folks could have been Jim Jones followers for all I cared (although when it was time to take a break from playing to go into the house and have some Koo-aid and cookies things might have gotten weird) but you get my drift. I was friends with kids who made me laugh, who laughed at my jokes, who shared my interest in comic books and video games and who was their favorite Bradford sister on Eight is Enough. Sure occasionally politics made its way into my pre-teen world in ways that could not be ignored "My mom doesn't allow niggers in my house, sorry Greg" kinda hard to ignore those implications no matter how hard you try but for the most part blue and red represented Superman's and Spider mans color schemes to me, not a political party's.

Alas we grow up, we leave home we enter the real world and the real world starts to treat us as blond women, black men or overweight Jewish people. Society does not know nor do they care if I was raised in a lilly white middle class neighborhood with neighbors named Becky and a sister named Marianne. Society just sees a black guy, and what they see trumps what comes out of my mouth or where I'm from. Every time. So my politics, like most peoples are formed by the way the world treats me and my demographic as opposed to what my mom and dad taught me.

Cut to 20 years later. Technology has afforded us the opportunity to reconnect with just about anyone we want to by typing their name into a box. Five minutes later I'm looking at those same kids from the playground, my best friends all grown up. Look how cute their kids are, look how well they have aged, this is so exciting, I can't wait to talk to them...then I click on info and they are a member of "Free OJ Simpson" or "Re-elect Michael Brown as head of FEMA" and my smile turns into a frown. My childhood friend still has that same smile they had 20 years ago, if I talked to them on the phone we could probably laugh and trip out over old times but dammit, our values are so completely in opposition of each other it actually hurts. And somewhere over cyberspace they are probably thinking the exact same thing about me ("oh shit, Greg became a bleeding heart liberal who thinks everyone should be treated the same regardless of religion, sexuality or color, that's too bad")

Some friends who have opposing religious and political viewpoints I am able to, for some reason still have close friendships with. I'm agnostic, I'm gay and I'm extremely liberal yet some of my closest friends in the world are christian, straight conservative and we seem to be able to work through it. Some of them. I'm not sure what the secret is. Why does friend A who has differing viewpoints than i do not get on my damn nerves but person B does? Is it because person A although conservative and Republican still talks to me as an equal and respects my viewpoints even though they don't share them? Or is it because person B is a member of the Tea Bagging movement and buys t-shirts with Obama's face made up to look like The Joker from Batman? Hmmmmm what could it be? Where is the line?

When all is said and done I hope if their is a heaven and if I make it there we are all 8 years old playing on the playground again. I love being an activist and social commentator, it's who I am but when all is said and done...I prefer kickball.

You supported every decision our commander and chief made because "That's what real Patriots do...support the president" I was amazed at the way you were able to block out logic and common sense and compassion in favor of good old fashioned American jingo...er pride. And once again, because we are Americans and Obama is the commander and chief O'Reily, Palin, Hannity Limbaugh and all the rest are supporting....hey wait a minute what happened to all the patriotism? What happened to supporting "our" president? That support only is in effect when "our" president has "your" skin color? Or do you only support a president who invades and kills and almost flunks out of school but not the president that attempts to heal and help? I'm so confused....no I'm not. Not confused at all. You assholes only cry National Pride when it suits your agenda, not when it actually helps this country. So I guess I need to revise my thank you to a "fuck you."

Picture it: Mary Help Of Christians grade school, late 70's I was sitting on the floor in Sister Jeanine Marie's class waiting in line to read to her, drawing a picture of Wonder Woman with crayons. I look over and I see this red headed freckle faced kid, who looked amazingly like Danny from the Partridge family drawing a picture of Green Lantern. We immediately started a conversation about Superfriends and magic lassos and other pressing issues a third grader would have. At that moment I made my first friend. Now I had friends prior to 3rd grade but they were neighborhood kids or kids of my parents friends or classmates. This little red head kid who kept insisting that "Green Lantern could kick Wonder Woman's butt all the way back to Paradise Island" became my first friend that I chose. Damnit.

This was a friendship that would go from Catholic private school to public middle school, high school and beyond. We would play on the same little league team, join Cub Scouts together create superheros, ride BMX bikes, mopeds with Kevin Buddlemeyer and Shawn Hodge, go down to "the creek" in Holiday Valley and read comic books. Our friendship lasted through adolescence into high school. I would get drunk for the first time with Matt and smoke my first cigg and joint with him in the car wash next to the carryout. He was and is the best friend I had ever had. We shared a love of the absurd, a love of superheroes and Sci-Fi and a love of inappropriate humor.After High school Matt was one of my first roommates in my first Apt (along with Rob Byrum and Ronna Berry!!Yikes!)

We were different as well.

Matt was an amazing athlete, pitcher, tennis player all around jock. I sang in the choir and acted in school plays. All the chicks liked Matt, he was a ladies man. All the chics liked me as well but they liked me to make them laugh as opposed to take them out. Being friends with Matt was effortless for me. Their are memories that we shared that I can't go back and relive with anyone else. Damnit.

Matt could also be a pain in the ass. He terrorized his poor sister as long as I could remember. He could be selfish and irrational and moody. I loved his selfish irrational moody ass just the same. He would not have been Matt Peters if he was easy to deal with at all times. He was brilliant, athletic, attractive, hilariously funny, down for whatever and had a real sweet sensitive side.He kicked my ass in baseball, ping pong and Atari. He introduced me to Stephen King books (Carrie) and John Carpenters The Thing. I used to be so jealous of his household, the attention and love his mother gave him, he was the apple of her eye. Damnit.

In May of 94 for reasons that I may never understand Matt Peters shot and killed himself. I had just moved to Atlanta and had spoken to him on the phone just weeks before his death. At the time I was going through my own drug issues and problems and either didn't hear or notice his distress. Because of being such a mess myself in 94 I was not even able to make it back to Ohio for his funeral, and I was supposed to be a pallbearer but could not afford even a bus ticket at the time. I will never ever forgive myself for letting him down the way I did. Damnit.

I loved Matt Peters (or Matt Peter!) as my older brother used to call him like family. His mother and stepfather and sister always treated me like family. Taking me in when I got kicked out of my house, always providing a fun warm enviorment when I came over, nothing ever but love from that brown house on Wakefield? Waverly? Its been a while. I will never forget how much he enhanced and energized my childhood and I will never forgive him for leaving us before his time. He could have been whatever he wanted to be. I miss him and I love him and I'm forever pissed off at him for ending a beautiful unfulfilled life. DAMNIT!!!

2010...let's get creative

There are a bunch of things I am horrible at. I suck at basketball, I know nothing about sports unless it involves pit bull abuse or Swedish scorned golfer wives, I don't know the first thing about fixxing a car, if I could I would call AAA to fill up my gas tank. I never went to college, I suck at math and I can't draw even a little. Luckily I can do a few things pretty well. I can play the piano pretty well, I have been known to write a pretty decent song or 5 and I have been known to make people laugh. I also know all the kids names and ages from the 1970's show Eight is Enough.In age order! By Actor! Those are my skill sets. That's it. So I decided in 2010 to focus on my strengths. Screw it you only live once. My New Years resolution is to be able to live off of what I do well, which, when what you do well is analyze Charlies Angels episodes well lets just say is no mean feat. 2010 is going to be the beginning of some new online ventures for me and my friends. I have created a YouTube Chanel called Skewer System which will feature parodies of popular songs (think a black gay weird al) along with various skits and humor (think a ghetto mad TV)this is a no budget affair but damnit I think it's funny. Written and produced by myself featuring me and my wonderful friends acting foolish. Please look for SKEWER SYSTEM in the beginning of January on YouTube and Face book. It's free to check it out and have a laugh (or not) if enough people check it out then I make money. If I make money then I won't be broke and bitter and I will be much easier to get along with as well as less likely to ask you for a loan. Everyone wins!

The other big thing in 2010 is Wonder Woman. It was one of my favorite TV shows as a kid, and although there are a lot of Wonder Woman websites out there, I didn't see any good, funny informative sites dealing with the Lynda Carter show from 76. So my friend Josh suggested we create one. And we did along with friends from Alaska and NYC. It should be up and running by the beginning of Jan. Their is a complete episode guide that details all the action, bad acting, cheesy fx and re-used bad guys from The Charlies Angels set. If you grew up in the 70's or are Simply a Wonder Woman fan please check out our site. My co-creators DOT and Wonderfan did most of the banners and design work, i did most of the writing. Tea Party (which sounds kinda gay to me) Republicans is some kind of grass roots movement (I think) with something having to do with wanting limited government controls and fiscal responsibility. I don't know and I don't care much what they're about except to beware. It seems that some people created t-shirts and bumber stickers, and teddy bears, you know, for fun, as souvenirs, or to show support for the group, a nod to like minded people driving down the highway, with a verse from the Bible. And they even had the President in mind. It says: Pray for Obama. Psalm 109:8.

OK my biggest complaint about the Christian concept of heaven is not the inconsistent depictions of the after life nor the seemingly impossible and always changing qualifications needed to get past st peter. Even the thought of singing Kumbaya for all eternity doesn't bother me as much as it should ("someones sleeping Lord *because they sick of singing this cloying song*...KUMBAYA!")...No my biggest complaint about Heaven is lack of diversity and entertainment options.

OK following this logic: the Buddhist don't believe Jesus was the son of God right? (Baptist) They don't go to confession or pray to Mary(Catholics) so this pretty much excludes Buddhist from the King James Heaven right? well no Buddhist means heaven is gonna be light on Asians which means no more technological advances Jet Li movies or manicures and I'm sorry a heaven without a pedi is not heaven to me. Christian Heaven excludes Muslims so that's going to make buying ciggs at the convenience store next to impossible. I like Aashir, the guy who works at the Citgo near my apt. Halloween is my favorite time of year. I love the crisp weather, reminds of playing football, wearing hooded sweatshirts and best of all the Fall TV season has just started. Beyond that my birthday is on Oct 30Th. All Hallows eve. When your birthday falls on Halloween eve the holiday, scary movies and your birthday all get mashed together.Unlike having a birthday on say Christmas where you special day can be lost in the sauce having a birthday on Halloween simply enhances the experience. I have eatin many a home made (by mom) Birthday cake while sitting in a Spider man Halloween costume watching The Fog on TV. Which brings me to the subject of this post. The movie Halloween and it's director John Carpenter.

When I turned 12 NBC decided to air the first broadcast of Halloween on the 30Th. My mom, knowing my love for movies and TV had gotten me a subscription to TV guide so I was well aware that Halloween was coming on TV. The very same weekend it's sequel "Halloween 2" was premiering in theaters and my older brother, who was a Junior in high school at the time was going with friends to see it. I had no idea at the time how this weekend would impact my life, my love for movies and horror movies in particular.

That night myself, next door neighbor Steve Trame and my dad sat in our sun porch and watched Halloween. It scared the bejesus out of all three of us. Actually it did more than scare me, it ignited my 12 year old minds fascination with movies, how they are made and why they affect us like they do.

Halloween was not John Carpenters first movie, (that was Dark star) it was not even his first studio picture (that was Assault On Precinct 13) it was his first straight up horror movie and jump started the slasher craze. The story was so simple...little kid for no reason murders his sister on Halloween night. Years later he escapes from the loony bin and stalks 3 babysitters and their boyfriends killing them as the night goes on. The story was so simple and straightforward, which I feel is the lesson in John Carpenter movies: keep it simple. For a measly budget of Three Hundred Thousand dollars Halloween grossed Fifty Million, made Carpenter, Debra Hill and Jamie Lee Curtis stars and started the slasher era in films. It was not the first slasher (Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Black Christmas predate Halloween) but it was the most well made and well received slasher.

Halloween was the first movie that at age 12 made me want to know what a cinematographer does. It made me aware of framing a scene, what wide screen, POV shots and jump scares were and the importance of music to establishing mood is (the score to Halloween was not only one of the first songs I learned to play on the piano, it has become instantly recognized as the most influential piece of music in cinematic history, beyond the genre of horror even.) Even the way Carpenter shoots his characters is telling. Their is such a detachment, almost documentary way he presents his cast. It is impossible to tell how Carpenter wants us to feel as an audience, or he feels as a director about his charades by the way he shoots them. Very objective which enhances the horror: anything can (and will) happen to anyone at anytime. Having no money the picture is heavily influenced by German expressionist pictures of the 30's...long shaded shots with barely visible action in the distance, Carpenter makes full use of the screen, your eye is constantly scanning the background for danger, the lighting and cinematography of the Legendary Dean cundy is so effective you almost don't even realize what its doing to you. Of course having a vet like Donald Plesance and the like able new comer Jamie lee Curtis doesn't hurt but this was truly john Carpenters movie.

So I watched Halloween and my 12 year old mind was blown away. I then started to follow John Carpenter movies and it was really during his golden age. He followed Halloween with 3 more classics in short succession: The Fog, The Thing and Escape from New York. All of these movies once again featured Carpenters keep it simple filmaking, pov and long tracking shots as well as his signature score.Beyond that what caught my attention even as a kid was that unlike other horror movies of the time JC's movies featured intelligent and resourceful black characters. The hero from assault on Precinct 13 is a black man, a cop who not only survives the entire movie but is smart and brave. He is not the sidekick or the comic relief. Subsequent carpenter films (The Thing, They Live to name a few) also featured black characters who were not stereotypes and not killed off 5 mins into the pic as cannon fodder. I was aware of this on a conscious and subconscious level as a kid.

John Carpenter single handily, in my opinion took a sub genre of horror, the slasher pic and infused it with intelligence and style. All the slasher (well most) that followed simply copied his formula (group of kids get picked off one by one by crazy man) but copied none of his style. Friday The 13th and their breathen are Dead Teenager movies, not really horror movies and while I do enjoy them, its kinda like liking McDonald's fries as well as liking fillet minion. Both taste good but one is going to upset your stomach later on that night.

So thank you John Carpenter for not only making Halloween, The Fog and The Thing, 3 of my all time favorite movies but for infusing a genre known for exploitation with class, style and intelligence. You made me love the art of filmaking.

Haddix Road...a great place to be a kid

Yeah I know i go on and on about going to High school in a cornfield and rednecks yelling nigger out of pick up trucks as I played with my Micronauts in the front yard, I got my angry black guy shtick down pat.....but in fairness and if I'm going to be honest with myself their was another side to growing up in the country.

As an adult, like most of you my relationship with my parents can drive me crazy. As a teenager, at times it sucked beyond the telling of it. I don't think I was alone or odd in those feelings, but personally speaking as a kid, a kid under 13? My street, my neighborhood, my parents? Not too many people had it better than I did.

My folks were old fashioned (still are). Dad worked full time, mom stayed home and raised the kids. My parents did not drink, smoke, abuse us or each other and they didn't run around with other people. Weirdo's right? My mom cooked us dinner every night, was class mother for all my various choir practices, plays and track meets. I thought my parents were the most old fashioned, boring, predictable people I knew. At the time I thought that was lame. In hindsight I realize how lucky I was. Because my parents were so busy being responsible parents, it left me time...to be a kid. I never wondered or worried if my dad was coming home drunk (he wasn't) I never wondered if my mom would ignore or abuse me (she wouldn't) I never pondered whether my folks would stay together. These were givens in my family. It gave me time to be a kid. It allowed me to play superheroes with Becky and Laura, wiffle ball with Steve and John Trame and learn to shoot 8mm movies with Jerry and Heidi. My parents "squareness" which I used to loath and lament included raising me in an enviorment where we could sleep outside in the front yard in sleeping bags, go fishing in the creek and sled riding over on Blake's Hill. In my neighborhood all the adults were parents to all the kids, if Mr Trame said no, it was no and because my neighbors shared my parents values we never had to worry about creepy parents or tainted Halloween candy. We just didn't.

When I got older I have had the wonderful opportunity to meet my biological family. Another mom, another dad and 9 new siblings. I would not trade knowing them for the world but along with all the love also came a lot of revelation. Most of my siblings who I was not raised with did not have it so easy. Some of them had to become parents to THEIR parents at age 12. Some had to deal with (still deal with) family situations that I can't even imagine dealing with. Because I never had to worry about food, or getting burned with ciggs or ignored my 8 year old mind was free to wander. I wrote, I played, I created, I developed a sense of humor, a creative mind and open soul that serves me every day of my adult life. And at times I think i don't appreciate why I have these things. Its because I was allowed to be a kid. Not a black kid, not a poor kid,just...a kid. Thank you Mom and Dad and Mr and Mrs Banks, Trames, Durst, Frylings, Buddelmeyers, Wunders, Leists and all the other adults who by simple virtue of keeping their lives in order, gave me and my siblings and my friends real, genuine childhoods. Of course when I turned 14 it all went to hell but those first few years were awesome. Suicide Lane, Marco Polo with Becky and Laura, Guns in The Woods, Karate Lessons from Jerry and jogging with Heidi. That might not mean anything to you, but it means the world to me.

Ok that’s it I have fucking had it. If you’re the type of person that gets offended easily, if your sensitive to people talking about racial injustice or you want us to just “all get along” I suggest you stop reading now. I have had one too many discussions on this matter today, I have heard one too many ignorant statements on the matter of race so now I’m going to say everything I have always wanted to say but didn’t because I didn’t want to offend my white friends and my white side of the family. Hope I’m still in the will.

#1“Why are black people allowed to call each other nigger but when a white person does it he is escorted from the building by human resources?” I get asked this question by white friends and family a lot. My first thought is, boy I sure do have a lot of idiots in my life. Second response is this. If your so ignorant to American History, if your so ignorant to human nature that you really don’t “get” why its ok for me to say ‘what up my ni99a” to a black man but its not ok for a white person to call me a nigger than you frankly are too stupid to be my FB friend anyway and I suggest you rent Blue Collar comedy DVD’s, that seems more your speed. I understand why my female co-workers can talk to each other and say “Bitch you crazy as hell” but I would NEVER say “bitch you crazy as hell” to a female. Because I GET IT. Because I have common sense. Nigger is a word that has been used to divide and marginalize a group of people in this country by white folks for years. You can’t fucking say it to me. I can. Get over it. (by the way a lot of black folks don’t agree in using the N word, that’s a debate for us to have, you get no say so.)

#2 “Greg, your mom is white and your dad is black. You were adopted by white people and your skin is light. Why do you consider yourself black?” If I had a dime for every time I have been asked this by a white person. Answer is simple. When I was adopted not everyone on one side of my family was cool with the idea. In fact they decided that I would not be allowed into their home because of my skin color. I stood outside a few places with my Mother while my siblings and cousins exchanged gifts at Christmas time ect…because I was black. When I was in grade school some of my friends parents did not allow me into their homes, (this was the 80s; even) because “My mom doesn’t allow niggers in the house” and I quote. They didn’t say “we don’t allow mixed people in our home” they didn’t yell “Bi-racial” out the window. They called me a nigger. The reason why my high yellow white mother having ass considers myself a nigger, is because I was treated like one. No not everyone was mean and racist to me but it was a normal part of my life. Even after all these years there are still friends and family members who don’t deal with me, not because I’m crazy or crude, or have been to jail or gay….but because I’m black. I learned to own it if you haven’t noticed.

#3 Why can’t black folks get past racism and stop using it as an excuse to be lazy?’ It’s so funny when I hear white folks say that slavery was YEARS ago and that they personally didn’t own a slave. The simple facts are these. The normal way of doing business in the United States from its inception up until around 1969 was to be able to legally treat black people one step up from animals. If my black father lived where I live 40 years ago he would not be able to sit where I am sitting now because of the color of his skin. I’m not talking 1800’s I’m talking in my lifetime. So a country that for hundreds of years was ok with the idea of owning blacks, marginalizing blacks and abusing blacks all of the sudden in less than 30 years has changed the fabric of their souls? Really? Racist white policies were not challenged because white folks were all of the sudden “enlightened” we black folks and some good white folks had to FIGHT for to march for to die for the right to be treated as equals. We had to fight for it. What does that tell you about the United States values at the time?
So please sensitive white people, my brothers and sisters and friends and parents the next time you start to feel annoyed that you feel a black person is playing the race card, the next time you hear a black person say something that you know if you said it you would be attacked, the next time you feel slighted or resentful because something doesn’t seem racially fair please do me a favor..shut the fuck up and deal with your got damned guilt. It was your countries policies and prejudices and acceptance of racism that made people like me the way we are. If I play the race card its because you have been dealing ity to me from the bottom of the deck.

Sooo...making fun of and criticizing Sarah Palin is getting passe...or so I thought. Now I don't mean to brag but the day after her speech at the Republican National Convention I blogged on this site right here that I did not like nor trust her. This was still during the week and a half love affair the media and America had with Sarah before she was forced to talk without a script and we saw what an idiot she really is...but I digress (burp) excuse me, but I digest. Anyhoo, this woman refuses to leave the spotlight, and now everyone has jumped on the bash Palin bandwagon. Not that I don't agree with a lot of it but it's getting boorish. Its like when an old white dude starts saying "for shizzle my nizzle" I know not to ever say shizzle again (that was dead 4 years ago by the way. If your not Snoop just don't)

Sooo...Palin has been in the spotlight of late usually talking about how she is trying to stay out of the spotlight, that she is not a quitter thus she must quit her job ect, so I thought I would in the interest of fairness attempt to find something about her I like and or admire (and no the fact that she can shoot a moose from a helicopter doesn't count. Let me see her take a moose down bare handed and we will talk.)

Sooo...I need some common ground with Ms Palin. I know it wont be sexuality, because I'm gay and she belongs to a church that attempts to pray gay out of people.I have seen the video! By the by when you attempt to pray gay out of people what you end up with is Clay Aiken. Gay as hell but annoyingly swears he is straight for the first 5 years of his career. Creepy. Anyhoo I knew Ms Palin and I were not going to bond on sexuality, or global warming or anything else that required intelligent thought. We are on two different levels, she is a accomplished politician and college grad who almost became co-leader of the free world. I have GED and a bus pass. The fact that I'm the pragmatic intellectual who understands science and she is the flighty Jesus freak that thinks a spirit from heaven will cure you of something that requires no cure other than a boyfriend is an irony that is lost on people.. anyway...I digress (burp) sorry I digest.

Sooo....I thought how about race? I'm black maybe just maybe I can find somethings to admire about SP concerning race. We can bond! So I started looking. The very first thing that popped up in my initial search was SP's Acceptance speech. Thinking I'm going to see something positive, a quote from Martin Luther King Jr maybe? An endorsement of Rosa parks but not, Ms Palin, that earthy folksy just like you and me soccor mom said this: "We grow good people in our small towns, with honesty and sincerity and dignity", she then cryptically attributed that statement to "a writer."

Of course the writer of that deceptively divisive comment was none other than Westbrook Pegler. If you don't know who that is, he was a Pulitzer winning journalist who gained even more infamy later in his career when he denounced the civil rights movement, embraced anti semitism and made the famous statement when referring to JFK "Some white patriot of the Southern tier will spatter his spoonful of brains in public premises before the snow flies." His views became so extreme and racist that he was asked to leave The John birch Society as he became a sort of folk hero to racist and antisemitic everywhere.

Sooo....Ms Palin decided to quote this person, while accepting the nomination for VP at the Republican National convention. I already felt her "small towns are where the real Amerasians at" rhetoric was passive aggressive and divisive but to quote a super bigot like Peglen shows she is either really really racist or as stupid as I thought. Either way my final attempt to connect with this woman who just wont go away, even as she announces she is um..going away ended in revealing to me what my spirit already knew. I tried.

I think its time that white folks, black folks, young, old, gay, straight, democrats and republicans, people with "innys" and people with "outys" belly buttons all came together to admit one universal truth: THAT BILL O'RIELLY AND SEAN HANNITY ARE SIMPLY HORRIBLE PEOPLE!!

I'm talking about that intuition that you and all good people have, that feeling in the back of your head you get when you meet someone that tells you "this is a horrible person" That radar that warns you not to give a ride to the creepy guy or not to open your door to the strange salesman? That internal warning your soul gives your brain about the new co-worker who keeps coming over to your cubicle? When you hear either of these individuals speak at length you mean to tell me your "this is a horrible person" alarm doesn't go off? Even if you are a Conservative republican (and I know a shit load of good people who happen to be Conservative republicans, look at my friend list) just because you voted for the same person as Bill Orielly doesn't mean you don't sense what most other have known for years. That he is simply a horrible person.

Now before this turns racial and I get a shitload of comments from outraged white No Spin Zone fans let me give you this: We black folks also have a few celebs that I have no problem calling horrible people. No not OJ Simpson, that's too easy, he is like the black default horrible person. How about Joe Jackson, Sean P-Diddy Combs or Rev Jeremiah Wright? I have never met any of them yet my "This is a horrible person" alarm has been going off on each of them for years based on what I see, hear and read of them. H2: Halloween 2 (2009) Trailer

Ok I have some good and bad to say about this trailer. As most of you know I'm a HUGE Halloween fan. My birthday is on Oct 30th, I saw the first Halloween as a kid on tv and it had a huge impact on me. Halloween was the first movie that I remember thinking "what does a director do?" (i was like 11) John Carpenter not only became my favorite director but Halloween was the movie that got me interested in what a cinematographer did, how to effectively frame a scene, the importance of music to suspense ect. All that being said I am not a Halloween purist. I accepted and enjoyed Rob Zombies 2007 remake on its own terms unlike certain fan boys who can't go see a Star Trek movie that doesn't feature Willaim Shattner however this trailer does cause some alarm.

I'm glad this H2 is set in an abandoned hospital, on the same night as part 1. The 2009 Laurie Strode is hobbling around dark staircases with a broken ankle just like Jamie Lee Curtis did in 81. All that is good. I'm even happy to see Annie alive in well in Part 2 even though she didn't survive the 1978 Halloween. What is getting on my nerves about this trailer is the whole "mother wants me to kill for her" thing that seems to be forming. That sure looks like Michael Meyers Mamma from part 1 (played once again my Rob Zombies wife Sherry) telling Michael (perhaps in a dream) to kill for her? Isn't the whole I Kill because mommy tells me to a Norman Bates Psycho or Jason Voorhees Friday the 13th thing? Why rehash that tired plot here? So I give this trailer a c-......

I mean really people, is that not a bigger abomination than me wanting my partner of 6 years on my health insurance from work? I keep seeing Carrie Prejean all over the news talking about it being her personal choice to feel this way and freedom of speech and ya ya ya.

Now I'm not going to say she's too dumb to see the irony in the fact that she is arguing for her own personal freedom by attempting to suppress mine, but honestly when I see Fox News outraged over personal liberty and freedom of speech and I throw up a little in my mouth.

Miss California, Carrie, sweety, I don't think you should lose your crown or should have been judged harshly because you feel the way you feel about gay people getting married. I think you should lose your crown and were judged harshly because you were stupid enough to say it when you said it. I mean it shows you don't have common enough sense to lie to keep up the facade of being likable. No tact. Doesn't Miss USA travel to other countries? What if she's in Japan and says she just LOVES oriental people? We could have an international incident on our hands. I don't want to have to pay 50 bucks to rent Godzilla V.S. Mothera just because Ms Save My Soul doesn't have tact or common sense. I want a smarter Ms America damnit.

Oh and for the record Her argument that being against gay marriage is a personal choice and I'm allowed to have my opinion and you yours is flawed. Your opinion is that I am denied the same rights as everyone else. Your opinion is affecting other people in a big way. Now My opinion is allowing everyone to be treated equally Carrie your life isn't affected at all. Its not a simple difference of opinion. Your point of view lowers me in class, value and rights. Now I'm sure even someone dumb enough to offend a good part of the population during a likability contest can grasp that concept. I am sick and tired of hearing people on TV, at work in my life say these played out useless phrases:

#1 "At the end of the day..." Now maybe this is just a black thing but saying "at the end of the day" has been played out for 3 years. If you turn on any MTV reality show listen to how many times someone says "at the end of the day" I hate it. Stop saying it.

#2 "It is what is is" This is another played out phrase. When you say 'well it is what it is" your not freaking saying anything! It is what it is? Much like "at the end of the day" this phrase does not advance the conversation or add anything new. It simply wastes oxygen. When I hear someone say "It is what it is" it simply tells me that that person has nothing of merit to say, but still wants to hear themselves talk so they say "It is what it is"

#3 "And whatnot" now saying and whatnot is just being intellectually lazy. It means nothing and everything at the same time and when someone says that to me in a conversation all it means is the persons point ended 2 sentences ago but they didn't want to stop talking so they say "and whatnot"

I love words, they are free, easy to say, easy to look up and can be fun!! When people talk to me and use cliched played out banality like the examples I listed above, I feel like I'm not worth the extra effort for them to access their vocabulary. Gets on my damn nerves as well....

If your not aware, some dirty Atl cops (who all happened to be white) forged a no knock warrant on this old ladies house (where no drugs were being dealt). After they busted in the door she shot one shot into the ceiling. They mowed her down in a hail of gunfire. They then planted drugs in her apt. Atl has the BEST police force I tell ya.....whats really sad is this woman was 92 years old. Managed to live through the South when they were lynching and killing folks and was still self sufficient at her advanced age only to be shot by dirty ATL cops. Not sure it was racially motivated but anytime 3 white cops shoot and kill an old black woman it sure in fuck FEELS racist to me.....The scary thing is if they would have done this to a young Hispanic or black male who was maybe 23 or 24 we (as a society) would have accepted the cover up. I'm sure y'all heard about the comments she made about Beyonce and Obama last week. Beyonce was asked to sing at the inauguration and she sang the song At Last, a song she also sang in the movie Cadillac records which she starred. apparently Etta James was not amused. She made this statement:

Ok, first off Etta.....YOU DIDN'T WRITE THE FREAKIN SONG!!!! "At Last" was a cover. It was written by Mark Gordon and Harry warren for a film (Orchestra wives) and was first performed and made popular by Glenn Miller (reached the top twenty, #14 I believe.) Etta, you covered a Glen Miller song the same way Beyonce did. Since you had no part it creating or writing the material I suggest you sit your old and bitter ass down. As far as your comments that Obama is not YOUR president, um...yeah he is, trust me. If I could have disowned George Bush I would have (in 1988 if ya know what I'm saying).....at any rate, after receiving negative press for her comments Ms Etta now says she was joking, it was all a joke. I feel like I wrote about this before, but it's my blog so fuck it.

I first became addicted to hip hop in the late 80's early 90's. What interested me so much about this genre of music was the fact that it was really many genres in one. You had so many different styles of hip hop and hip hop artist. Everything from East Coast b-boys like LL, Special Ed Rakim, West Coast Gangsters like NWA and King T, or Southern Booty shakers like Luke.

And these were just the men.

In the late 80's early 90's female MC's burst on the rap scene with all the skill variety and bravado of the guys. To look at the rap charts of the early 90's you could find female rappers representing everything from The B-girl story telling of MC Lyte, the Afrocentric pride of Queen Latifa and Monie Love not to mention The west Coast gangstress who was YO YO. If you turned on YO MTV Raps in 1991 you would find artist like Nikki D, MC trouble, Shante and Antionette, The cookie Crew, Silk times Leather, 357 and JJ Fad all had hit's side by side with the LL's, Snoops and Ice Cubes of the time.

Then there is Salt N Pepa.

Salt N Pepa not only kicked open the doors of this boys club to allow the girls to grab the mic, they surpassed most of the male MC's of that era in popularity, longetivity and record sales. Simply put one of the greatest rap groups of all time happens to be made up of females. Salt N Pepa.

Fast Forward to 2008. Hip Hop has become mainstream, rap sells Sprite and Sprint. Rappers are now producers, Moguls and Hollywood superstars.

Well The guys are anyway

As I write this blog I'm trying to think of the relevant female rappers of the 21'st century. Latifa is still around doing very well as an actress but hasn't released a hip hop record in years. The New School female MCs can be counted on one hand. Rah-Digga (inactive) Remmy Ma (incarcerated) and Foxy Brown (immature) even the female Mc's that are active are pretty much interchangeable. Take Jacki-o, Remy Ma and Shawwna and listen to a verse by each, could you tell the difference? Only Lil Kim is a true superstar and that's do more to the fact of her tabloid like life style and association with slain superstars than for a hot 16 bars she may (or may not have) written. Most of the females mc's of the 21st century look alike (sorta like empowered video ho's) sound alike and talk about the exact same subject matter.

More distressing still is whenever we are treated to a fresh new talented female rapper they either don't sell records (Lil mamma) or go stark raving Mad (Lauren Hill). It's like the industry is going ass backwards, but as usual the girls get it the worst.

As a former songwriter and producer I have always been more interested in the female mc than the male. Girls can work a song in more ways, they can be sexy, sassy, introspective and vulnerable in ways that the guys just cant without be labled corny or soft. With so many issues facing the black community in 2008, and with most of the male MC's not willing or able to reflect this reality through their art we could really use a new MC Lyte, Lauren Hill or Latifah about now. It's a shame that the promise once shown has yet to be realized.

I like debate, I love debate but it seems as though I picked up an unusual fan. He never posts his name and he never posts follow up comments when I call him out on mistakes in his comments. He tends to pop in, make some half ass racist or homophobic remark, usually directed at Obama then after I check him on his facts ect he disappears only to reappear later with more hate, fear and untruths......

..........Well to this person who is too scared to reveal themselves (your the only anonymous poster my blog has by the way) for all your fear mongering,race baiting and ignorance America still got it right. You represented to me, on this blog the ugly, fearful prejudiced homophobic aspect of America than is slowly dying out along with John McCain's political career. This country, the blacks, the whites the gay and the straight all made a choice that benefited the good of man kind, that befitted all people and to that, I am grateful.....to my anonymous fan, as usual you were wrong. So I sat down last night prepared to watch the debate and I picked up a pad and pencil and wrote down my thoughts as it progressed. Here they are verbatim from my Mead notebook

* Joe Biden knows his stuff. He seemed to emphatically and truthfully answer every question given him.

* Sarah Palin surprised me. Not because she did a good job (she did not) but because she didn't make any major flubs.

* This debate is a lot more intense and interesting than the Obama/McCain snooze fest from 2 weeks ago.

* Anyone with any intelligence can see that Palin is really just a pre-programed publicity stunt.

* Just because you talk like the characters in FARGO and have children does not mean you have any more of a connection with middle America than I (or Obama or Biden) does. It just means you sound annoying and can give birth.

* Biden was restrained! Lucky for democrats.

* Why show up for a debate if your not going to answer direct questions? How do we know how you feel on 10 of the issues if all you do is return to the 2 things you do know about? I don't get it.

THE RACE( to the Whitehouse)

I would like to think that in 2008, in a world of Oprah, Tiger, Quincy and Condeleesa the fact that one of the presidential candidates is a man of color would not be a factor in his chances of getting elected president. I would LIKE to think that, unfortunately I'm pretty sure it is a factor. Here's why:

Two of the most important issues that the average American care about, according to most polls are the economy and the war. They both suck. The economy sucks, the war sucks. I feel comfortable in saying that this setiment crosses party lines. Most Democrats and republicans agree, the economy sucks, the war sucks.

We have been given 2 options as far as how we want to fix these problems. One is Barrack Obama. A person who happens to be extremely intelligent,accomplished, successful, hard working, a great communicator and who time and time again has shown that not only can he be an effective leader, he can be an inspiration. His policies are those that encourage peace, communication, acceptance, and an economic structure and philosophy that attempts to bridge the gap between the haves and haves not. He is also a person who happens to be black.

Option # 2 John McCain is an accomplished politician, a true war hero and a person who projects wisdom and integrity (for the most part). He also happens to be an old white guy. The problem is the average American thinks the economy sucks and the war sucks. John Mccain has stated publicly, recently that "he really does not know that much about economics" and thinks the economy is fine. I tell you this on the same day that Lehman Brothers filed for the biggest bankruptcy in history and Wall street has its worst day in 7 years. Yet McCain thinks the economy is fine, or that even if it wasn't he really wouldn't know anyway. Alrightythen.

The other big issue, the war. Where the black guy favors bringing troops home asap and communication with our enemies as opposed to aggression, McCain and Palin accept a 100 year war (and hey if Russia gives us any lip we will bomb them to) How is that the will of the people?

Are ya with me so far? War Sucks, Economy sucks everyone thinks so. White guy doesn't know about the economy or accept the reality of the economy. White guys priority is not to end the war, at least not for about 100 years. Black dude understands economics and wants to end the war.

Now call me crazy but given the FACTS the logical thing for the average person to do given our options would be to vote for the guy who cares about the economy and cares about ending a senseless war. That's the black guy by the way. And of course there is the rub.

There is a frighting number of white voters who still feel uncomfortable voting for the black guy. I know many people, friends and relatives, people who i know to be intelligent, compassionate responsible people who are not at all racist yet continue to attempt to rationalize voting for the guy who likes the war and hates economics? The old white guy who wants the opposite of what they say they want.Yet they consider voting for him. Its perplexing. Well unfortunately its not that perplexing. even in a world of Oprah and Tiger some white voters still can not bring themselves to elect a black man as president, much less a black man with the names Obama and Hussein in his name.

John McCain keeps saying he is going to reform Washington. To clean up economic waste. But John McCain has been part of that exact same Washington for 25 years. How does one reform ones self? from the inside? Especially when he admits he doesn't even understand the problem?

I'm not saying every democrat or independent who hesitates to vote for Obama is a racist or that it is even a factor in every case. I do believe that Obama's race is a factor to a lot of good people who actually agree with the black mans policy's. I would go so far to say that in most cases its a subconscious reaction to the reality that a black man named Hussein could possibly lead this country. Some white voters are not even aware that this is a reason for them being wary of the smart intelligent peace dude (who happens to be black)

So yeah race matters in this race (damnit) what really scares me is this. If I were the same person I am with the same values,same experiences only white, would I have that same visceral subconscious aversion to electing the black guy? Maybe, but then again if I was a white guy I wouldn't be the same person I am today with the same values and the same experiences now would I?

Ok so now that I have my brand new fabulous laptop I decided to go to the library and actually check out books (as opposed to just going in there and using their computers) to learn about folks I really like or really...don't. So I decided to start with Barbara Bush sr. I checked out 3 bios on her, one a positive look, one a (supposedly) objective look at her life and the third...well the third was written by Kitty Kelly. Anyhoo...I was all set to blog about why Barbara Bush is evil incarnate when Sarah Palin emerged and stole the media spotlight. So I decided to do some research on Ms Palin and I found that her, and Barbara Bush affect me in the exact same way. So I decided to combine the two topics and have at it! Get it? Got it? Good! My bitching starts NOW:

When Barbara Bush became 2nd lady of the United States in 1980 she was presented to the American people as "Earth Mother" and "Americas Grandmother" because, frankly she was portly, looked like she may be her husbands mother as opposed to wife and had that silver hair. Because we as Americans are shallow and only pay attention to surface details, we accepted her at face value and thus never put Mrs Bush under the scrutiny we did Nancy Reagen, Hilary Clinton or pretty much any first lady in the last 50 years. I mean she looks like our grandma damnit, how bad can she be? What I found is Mrs Bush seems to be an elitist, wealthy her entire life who seemed to look down on women in her husbands employ who didn't want to stay home and have kids. She brags about being a kept woman her entire life and doesn't seem to have any compassion or understanding for those less fortunate than her. Finding evidence to back up these claims was really easy. Two of her most famous public blunders were these: In 2003 Good Morning America interviewed the Bush's about their TV viewing habits Mrs Bush said this (on live TV)-

:I watch none. He [former President Bush] sits and listens and I read books, because I know perfectly well that, don't take offense, that 90 percent of what I hear on television is supposition, when we're talking about the news. And he's not, not as understanding of my pettiness about that. But why should we hear about body bags and deaths, and how many, what day it's gonna happen, and how many this or that or what do you suppose? Or, I mean, it's not relevant. So, why should I waste my beautiful mind on something like that, and watch him suffer?

I guess what she is saying is just because the child she birthed sent a bunch of American men to die in a war under false pretense, doesn't mean she is going to be bothered with disturbing details such as a body count. Earth mother? Earth mother smearth mother.

More famously she said while visiting people displaced by hurricane Katrina in 2005:

"Almost everyone I've talked to says, 'We're gonna move to Houston.' What I'm hearing, which is sort of scary, is they all want to stay in Texas... Everybody is so overwhelmed by the hospitality, and so many of the people in the arenas here, you know, were underprivileged anyway. This is working very well for them".

I find it amusing that she thinks its "scary" that all these black folks want to stay in Texas because the "hospitality is overwhelming" yeah historically Texas has been a real black friendly state. To welcome us they tie us to the back of pick up trucks and drag us behind until our heads fall off!
There are so many more examples of this kind of "I'm rich and powerful and your not so screw you" mentality that this women has been spouting for over 30 years but for some reason she still has this reputation as being "Americas Grandma" and "earth mother". Well its not for some reason, its because she looks benevolent and we as Americans are just that shallow to go by appearances and to lazy to research and find out what people in power are really about.

Which brings me to Sarah Palin. She is pretty much (so far) getting the same treatment Barbara Bush received. True she is well spoken, cute, funny with great comedic timing and smart. She looks like a soccer mom and she has a sick baby so how can she be a bad person? Well I don't know if she is bad or not but I sure know what she stands for. She doesn't believe global warming is man made. Sigh. She wants creationism taught in public schools (hey people, if you want teachers teaching your kids about God put your money where your mouth is and send them to a private Christian school!) and she doesn't believe sex ed should be taught in school? Really? You want creationism (a religious belief) taught as a science in school but not the facts of sex ed? So I'm assuming her pregnant 17 year old daughter became pregnant through emaculate conception? Amazing! So a vice president nominee who doesn't want to clean up the enviorment because it interferes with her business interest, wants to force her conservative christian values on the masses, yet keep scientific factual info from our children and is anti-choice. Wow those are the exact same values that Bush, Cheney and McCain have!!

Are ya picking up what I'm putting down? Barbra Bush has gotten away with pretty much being a racist, elitist snob for 30 years because she looks like our grandmas. Sarah Palin is attempting the same trick because she looks like your sweet soccer mom neighbor. The values they promote are the same divisive, ignorant and judgemental values that have plagued our country for the last 8 years. I refuse to be an idiot and fall for the surface details. I hope folks use their brains and common sense this time because although the faces are disarming, the song remains the same.

As I type this Obama is accepting the democratic nomination for President of the United States. I will always remember this moment because my memory is hella good. I remember.

I remember standing outside my great aunts house in Pittsburgh Pa in the snow. I was not allowed in her house at that point because I was black. I remember my adopted mother standing out in the snow with me while my white brother and sister and my white father got to meet my new baby cousin, but not me. I was adopted, and i was black. I was four.

I remember my grandparents on my adopted fathers side of the family not talking to me for years. They were never mean or outright hostile, they just sort of ignored me. If they gave my siblings 50 dollars at Christmas they gave me 10. They told my parents that if they adopted me they would not be welcome in their home any longer. Not because I was a bad kid.Because I was black.

I remember my friends in High school. They were all white. Out of about 1,000 students there were maybe 4 black kids. Some of my friends would slip up and say nigger in front of me. When they realized their mistake they would say things like "Oh Greg we don't think of you as black" I was a pretty popular kid in school. I was smart and funny and creative and talented, sensitive and (I have been told) sweet. I'm not saying that those qualities didn't mean anything to some of my relatives and friends and neighbors, I'm just saying that the most important aspect of my being to them, was that I was black. I'm not saying I lived in the most racist situation ever, or that I was taunted daily. What I'm saying is it was, for as long as I can remember, very very important for these people to let me know that I was different, not quite a part of things, not accepted completely. They needed to let me know I was different, that I was black.

I remember everything. thank God I remember the good things.

I remember my adopted parents never treating me any differently than my siblings. I remember them telling me the color of my skin didn't matter, that i could become whatever I desired. I remember my moms sister and my Grandma french and my cousin Jen making me feel loved and welcome and secure when I visited them. We always visited that side of the family first at Christmas. The first part was always my favorite part of the holiday. I remember that love. It made me realize that not all white people are racist or even ignorant of my situation. It kept me from becoming bitter, it showed me that ....yes we can. Yes I am just as important, and intelligent, and worthy of love as my white siblings. It gave me hope and pride in my life at a time when so many others were telling me that I was defined by the color of my skin. That to them the most important quality I possessed was pigmentation.

So here it is 2008 and I'm watching this black man speak.I never really thought a black man would be this close to the white house in my lifetime. My life had taught me that the color of his skin DID matter, it mattered more than anything else. That was my truth.

I'm inspired. I had no outline for a blog tonight or real plan of writing one, i just sat down and started typing from the heart.

Crazy huh? Writing things like this, talking about stuff like this can be uncomfortable. There are wonderful white folks in my life that I truly care about who don't have a racist bone in their body. At the same time there are important white people in my life, who i truly care about, who happen to be a bit racist. That's a tricky thing to deal with so I decided to simply...Tell My truth. because if you tell the truth you don't have to worry about remembering anything.It is what it is.

Definition of a Hater: Someone who is jealous or envious of another

Scene: Some chic from accounting, 24 year old black chic wears a tacky ass ghetto short short hoochie mama dress to work. Obviously she gets some looks from other broads to which she says "Oh they just hating on me".

Scene: Usher (the rnb singer) on a recent interview when asked about his sagging album sales and lack of male fans says "Oh they just a bunch of haters"

Usher....bro....I'm not hating on you. I just hate you. OK that's a bit strong I don't hate you, it's just your ego is SOOOOO huge, I feel like you are already your biggest fan. I can't compete with that. Frankly I will save my $13.00 for an artist that needs it (I'm talking to you Lil Mama)

Somehow in popular culture the term hater has become this generations "Not" or "Sit on It". Its not possible (especially with my friends I'm around all the time, ya know black folks? I believe the proper term is "colored" people) To simply not like something someone has on, or to not like a song or artist who is hot without being labeled a "hater".

A friend of mine recently got fired from a job for excessive tardiness. His wife was like "why those people hating on my baby like that?" Shit like that.Gets on my damn nerves! Hater is one of those all encompassing words that sounds very hip and can be used to avoid actual conversation or debate. Sorta like when people say "And what not" (I hate that as well)Yes I'm a "and what not" hater.

So when super short skirt hoochie girl said "Y'all hating on my dress" it was a way of avoiding the fact that she looked a mess. Actually I ended up telling her "I'm not hating on you, its just your skirt is so short I can see your labia!"

The term is still applicable in certain instances but is seriously on its way out. Think twice before using.

I was listening to some co-workers go on and on about how crazy Scientoligist are.

"They are so weird, they believe that aliens from another planet came down and populated the earth, that's so far fetched".

I can do nothing but smile when I hear stuff like this. Is believing that aliens in spaceships visited this planet eons ago any more far fetched than Christian beliefs?

Far fetched? This from Christians who have no problem believing that humans back in biblical times could control the elements (Moses) control animals (Noah) create and transmute matter (Jesus) and rise from the dead (Jesus). Those powers sound like abilities possessed by the X-men or Superfriends!

Its amusing to me that these amazing superhuman feats are not only accepted readily by Christians who are so quick to call Scientoligists weirdo's but to even question if such events were plausible or possible is met with disdain. A bit of selective acceptance of the absurd going on methinks.

I have a hard time believing in anything when my only proof is "The Bible says". It's almost a bit scary that its good enough reason (the Bible says) to base your entire life, soul and belief system on, even when it defies logic.

Hey Dianetics is an old book too just like the Bible.

(For the record I think Scientologists are a bit kooky as well but no more so than Christians who base their entire belief system on an old, impossible to verify book.

I know I know I'm a conspiracy theorist…

It's just a coincidence that the first "superhero" depicted on the silver screen as a criminal, alcoholic, lazy, foul mouthed, not giving a you know what bum, living in a broken down trailer, who everybody hates including the people he saves, just happens to be black.

Right?

And, it's just a coincidence the one man who loves Hancock, has faith in him and truly cares about him as a person; is an idealistic white man who wants to save the entire planet. Let's call him the Anti-Bush. Oh and I can't forget his adorable little son is the only character, besides his loving father, that doesn't refer to Hancock as an a**hole.

Right?

And, is it just a coincidence that Hancock only maintains his super powers if he stays away from a "beautiful" white woman who is technically his wife.

You have got to be kidding, right??!!

I mean, of course the Blacks and Latinos hate Hancock because the only ones depicted in the movie are criminals, and although he does an extremely poor job, is often late, drunk, unshaven, shabbily dressed and does more damage than good (just coincidences!) he does, at the very least, fight crime.

But, everything changes for friendless Hancock when he saves a white man with a heart of gold and an angel of a son who wants to help Hancock with his "image". (Because of course America won't accept an always drinking and cursing black man with a rap sheet, I mean who does he think he is Lil Wayne?) In a matter of minutes he convinces Hancock to turn himself in and go to jail. He even writes his press conference speech for him!

Mr. Save the World then proceeds to "civilize" the savage Hancock by convincing him to stop drinking, shave, wear a hero uniform, treat other people with kindness and consideration, and even how to land without ruining public property. Things that; in the 80 years he remembers being a superhero, poor Hancock never seemed to figure out.

After his much needed "makeover" Hancock finally receives the love of the people he was always looking for. And, even when he realizes he is not the only superhero and his "savior's" wife is his long lost love, he gladly leaves because when they are together they become "mortals". So I guess Obama's gonna be the nominee. For some odd reason nobody seems to have told Hilary yet. She is all over the TV (as of this morning) talking about "I will be meeting with my advisers the next few days" well Hill they need to advise you to start looking at being a vice president. Its not so bad hell, you did it before for 8years why not?

Some people at work and in my life (all black folks of course, I try and avoid white people at all costs,if I'm caught with white friends my free BET goes right out the window. Its in the contract,that and a free toaster)were actually crying with joy. It is a happy day, and one I thought I would not see in my life time.

A lot of my friends are concerned that Obama could be killed. I'm not that worried about that. Even his enemies know that to kill him would only make him a martyr. A dead Obama is Martin Luther King. An Alive Obamma is Jesse Jackson. Feel me? I'm much more concerned with them assassinating his character, I'm sure that's where all the trouble ahead lies.

**I really only smoke ciggs now because I need to take two 15 min breaks at work. One at 10am one at 3pm and damnit I need those breaks. So I decided to keep my sanity I needed to start smoking again for the smoke breaks. It is what it is. Plus we have 2 lungs don't we? If one gets damaged, I got me a spare!

** Speaking of my ghetto ass job. Its ghetto as hell. How ghetto is it? My manager Ms Adelle who is a 60'ish southern black woman sold me a pair of Nike's out the back of her truck for 20 bucks. I don't think they are even bootleg! I can't make this shit up.

** I almost got written up again today for being a smart ass. Well my managers boss called it being a smart ass but I was just being honest. He came to my cubicle and asked me and my co-workers who sit near me if we thought he was a micro manager. "Why no" said Shalonda. "Oh goodness no" said Laytia. Even though these same bitches be doggin him out on every smoke break we take together. Then he looked at me "Mr Blackshear, do you think I micro manage?"

Me: "Um no I don't" I replied."What you do is...hmmm whats smaller than a micro? Oh...I know, you sub-atomic-particle manage?!?!"

His smile faded and he said "That was bordering on insubordination" I'm thinking...duh, that's why I said it. The key word is bordering!

** It was reported that 90's rapper Queenpin was beat up by her boyfriend last week? They said the dude even went to far as to break her Grammy! I was as shocked as y'all when I heard! I was like "Queenpin has a Grammy?"

** Speaking of female rappers. What the hell? Where are they at? When I was coming up we had MAD female MC's. Not only that we had variety. Yo YO repping west coast thugs chics. MC Lyte the storyteller, Queen Latifa the Afrocentric leader. I freakin HATE the first day of a new job

I mean I like actively hate it. And let me tell you, although I am a writer by trade, writing songs and blogs and treatments to screenplays pays me just about enough to pay one bill. My cable bill. And I get free cable. So like everyone else I'm forced to hall my non typing non spelling non conformist ass to an office everyday, and since I'm a temp working for a temp service...I have a LOT of first days. Like today. And I hate them. Am I the only office working cubicle dwelling zombie who hates these first day rituals?

#1 The introductions. Or to be more specific "Ok I want everyone in the new training class to stand up and introduce yourself and tell us one thing about yourself. "My name is Greg. One interesting thing about me? Hmmm...Oh ever since i stopped smoking crack I found I have much more money to invest in Al-Qaeda" That joke either makes people really really like me, or it gets me on the no fly list.

#2 The Co-workers. Well in my office today there were 55 people. 30 of them were black women. 10 of them were black gay men (queens) 10 were middle aged white southern soccer moms 4 were straight black men and one was me. As far as potential drama goes, those statistics are like the perfect storm for office drama. The black chics either try to get with you on the romance tip (ewww girls, guess it takes all kinds)force you to admit your gay, or they get mad because you don't jock them all day. The gay boys are either trying to get with you, or act like stuck up queens and hate on you cuz you don't give them the time of day. The straight black dudes talk about all the women in the office they want/have had and the middle aged white women say extremely passive aggressive offensive statements that seem like compliments but are really hidden digs "You speak so well Greg" "Oh you have no kids and your in 30's? Wow how did you manage that?' I don't stick my dick in females, that's how.

#3 The trainer/supervisor. I always get the extremes. Either they are so incompetent that they train you horribly, leaving very important steps out, so when you try to do your job on your own you do it wrong, and look like an idiot. If you tell your boss "Sandy didn't show me that" you look like a snitching, cry baby idiot. The other extreme is the trainer is soooo good at there job and they just HAVE to prove how smart they are by giving you so much information in one day that you absorb none of it.

I could go on (and on) about learning how to make coffee, break room etiquette ect...but I just left the hell that was my first day, and I need a drink. Since I can't smoke crack anymore guess I'll write a check out to Abdullah yusef Azzam and call it a freakin day.
